The 2025/26 season was a disappointing one for Tottenham. After winning the Europa League in the 2024/25 season under Ange Postecoglou, Spurs were expected to make a strong comeback. However, the London team continued their downward spiral and had to fight until the final matchday to avoid relegation.
A 1-0 victory in the final round against Everton helped Tottenham finish the season in 17th place, just enough to maintain their status as a "permanent member" of the Premier League.
Immediately after achieving their survival goal, Spurs accelerated their summer transfer plans. According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Tottenham have now reached a "preliminary agreement" with Andy Robertson, and the deal is only awaiting the completion of the final procedures.

"Andy Robertson is set to join Spurs after the club secured their Premier League survival. The two sides have reached a basic agreement," journalist Ben Jacobs revealed on social media platform X.
Robertson will leave Liverpool after nine successful years at Anfield. The Scottish defender is one of the icons of the Jurgen Klopp era, playing a major role in helping Liverpool win two Premier League titles and the Champions League in the 2018/19 season.
However, in the 2025/26 season, Robertson's role diminished significantly following the arrival of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth. The Scottish star only started 11 Premier League games and no longer held an irreplaceable position in the Liverpool squad.
At 32, Robertson is reportedly looking for new challenges and more regular playing opportunities ahead of what could be his final World Cup with the Scotland national team.
For Tottenham, this is seen as a much-needed signing of experienced players, especially after a turbulent season. Spurs' left-back position has been inconsistent lately, even forcing them to use Djed Spence, a right-footed player, to patch up the team at times.
Manager Roberto De Zerbi is reportedly keen to add players with strong character and top-level experience to improve the quality of the Tottenham dressing room.
Robertson has made a total of 276 Premier League appearances for Liverpool since joining from Hull City in 2015. He has been included in the Champions League Team of the Year twice and has consistently been rated as one of the best left-backs in English football for almost a decade.
Despite no longer being at the peak of his form, the Scottish defender is still expected to bring fighting spirit, experience, and leadership qualities to a Tottenham team that needs to rebuild from scratch after two consecutive seasons of crisis in the Premier League.
