On May 28th, Can Tho City Children's Hospital announced that its doctors had successfully treated a child who suffered anaphylactic shock after being bitten by a scorpion while collecting snails by the roadside.
Previously, patient NMĐ (13 years old, residing in Cái Răng District, Cần Thơ City) was admitted to the hospital in a state of respiratory failure, hypotension, and scattered red rashes on the chest. The scorpion bite on the left ankle was bruised and bleeding, with swelling in the lower third of the left lower leg.

After examination, the doctor determined it was a severe case of anaphylactic shock and immediately administered shock treatment and respiratory support. After 30 minutes of intensive resuscitation, the child gradually regained consciousness, blood pressure stabilized, and breathing difficulties decreased.
Besides being treated for anaphylactic shock, baby D. also received combined treatment including antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, painkillers, antihistamines, and tetanus antitoxin injections. After 12 hours of treatment, the patient's vital signs stabilized, and she was transferred to the Cardiology Department for further treatment of the infection and swelling caused by the scorpion bite.
Based on the above case, doctors at Can Tho Children's Hospital advise that when children are bitten by scorpions or other venomous insects, after disinfecting the wound, they should be taken to the nearest hospital for timely examination and treatment to avoid unpredictable complications.
