On December 6, Nghe An Lung Hospital announced that it had just saved the life of Mr. NTN (67 years old, residing in Kim Lien commune, Nghe An) who was admitted to the hospital in critical condition: severe difficulty breathing, chest pain, swelling of both legs, coughing up pink foam. Initial examination recorded blood pressure of 200/110 mmHg, pulse of 105 beats/minute, SpO₂ of only 70% - signs of life-threatening acute respiratory failure.

Timely rescue of patients with acute pulmonary edema and pleural effusion due to complications of heart failure.
Upon receiving the patient, the on-duty team activated the red alert and consulted with the hospital leadership and the Intensive Care and Anti-Poison Department. The patient was diagnosed with acute pulmonary edema and pleural effusion due to complications of heart failure .
Doctors deployed the patient on non-invasive ventilation, used diuretics, vasodilators, continuous monitoring and pleural drainage.
Through medical history, Mr. N. had many serious underlying diseases: diabetes for 20 years, high blood pressure for 10 years, and heart failure under treatment - making the treatment regimen even more complicated. Thanks to smooth coordination and timely treatment, after only 24 hours, the patient's breathing stabilized, difficulty breathing, chest tightness decreased, and his health significantly recovered.
This case is an important reminder for people with cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes. If they do not comply with treatment or do not return for check-ups on time, the risk of serious complications such as respiratory failure, acute pulmonary edema, and pleural effusion is always lurking.
When coughing and difficulty breathing increase rapidly, the patient needs to go to the hospital immediately to not miss the "golden time" for treatment.
