Recently, Thong Nhat Hospital received emergency treatment for a child patient named NNKN (8 years old, residing in Ho Chi Minh City) with a wound about 25x18 cm long on his back.
According to the family, after going to the toilet, the child stood on the toilet to hang up his clothes. At this time, the toilet suddenly broke, sharp pieces of porcelain cut deep into his back, causing a lot of bleeding. The family immediately took the child to a nearby medical station for initial first aid to stop the bleeding, then urgently transferred him to Thong Nhat Hospital.

Here, doctors quickly established an IV line, reduced pain, bandaged the wound, and coordinated a consultation with the Neurosurgery and Nephrology - Urology departments. After assessing the injury, the patient was transferred for further intensive treatment.
BSCKII Nguyen Thuy Trang, Head of the Emergency Department, recommends that parents absolutely avoid letting children climb in the bathroom or stand on porcelain, glass, or breakable objects.
When an accident occurs that causes heavy bleeding, family members need to stay calm, use gauze or a clean towel to apply direct pressure to the wound, then quickly take the child to the nearest medical facility for timely treatment. At the same time, families should also equip children with daily safety skills to help limit the risk of unfortunate accidents.
