On the afternoon of December 6, Ly Hoang Nam officially made history for Vietnamese pickleball when he defeated Jack Wong in the final match of the PPA Tour Asia Open 2025 in Hangzhou, China.
This victory not only brought home the championship trophy but also marked the first time Ly Hoang Nam stepped onto the highest podium in the Pro men's singles category in his career at the PPA Asia Tour system.
The final match against Jack Wong was considered the final test of Hoang Nam's mettle. He showed destructive form throughout the tournament, especially after a resounding victory over No. 1 seed Federico Staksrud in the semi-finals.

Entering the final, Jack Wong quickly showed his superior class when leading 4-0, creating a significant advantage. However, with extensive experience and a never-give-up spirit, Ly Hoang Nam persevered to regain the rhythm of the match.
The Vietnamese player won 4 important points in a row to level the score, creating a big psychological turning point. Taking full advantage of this advantage, Hoang Nam rose strongly and "finished off" his opponent 11-4.
The classic comeback in set 1 was not only a victory in terms of points but also a strong affirmation of Ly Hoang Nam's mettle and ability to withstand pressure.
Entering the second set, Ly Hoang Nam maintained an amazing stability in his playing style, causing his opponent to constantly be confused and make mistakes. Although Jack Wong tried to "stuff the ball" to the back of the court to limit the Vietnamese player's ability to take the net, Hoang Nam still demonstrated his superior ability to control the game.
The Vietnamese representative quickly took the lead over their opponent with a devastating score of 8-1, almost deciding the fate of the set and the final match.
At this time, despite being psychologically burdened, Jack Wong made a significant effort, narrowing the score to 4-9. Meanwhile, Hoang Nam suddenly made mistakes, continuously making bad shots.
However, his strong character helped Hoang Nam maintain his spirit. The 1997-born player quickly regained his focus and finished the set with an 11-4 victory.
With this convincing 2-0 victory (11-4, 11-4), Ly Hoang Nam has officially been crowned champion of the PPA Asia Tour Open 2025 in China. The victory is not only the result of his tireless efforts but also a historic milestone, marking the first time this tennis player has won the PPA Tour championship after switching from tennis to pickleball.
