On October 31, Thong Nhat Hospital (HCMC) organized a scientific conference on Geriatrics in the era of digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI) at Thong Nhat Hall. This is an activity in a series of events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the hospital's tradition.

According to Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor Le Dinh Thanh, digital transformation and AI have a strong impact on all aspects of social life, including healthcare .

AI is particularly effective in home care for the elderly, helping with 24/7 monitoring and reducing pressure on primary health care. In hospitals, digital transformation and AI applications help with early diagnosis, treatment and effective rehabilitation for the elderly.

"However, the core issue is still the human factor. The geriatric field is facing difficulties due to the lack of specialized personnel," said Dr. Le Dinh Thanh.

Therefore, in addition to improving the quality of treatment and scientific research, Thong Nhat Hospital aims to become a training center for geriatrics for medical facilities; at the same time, forming a nursing and rehabilitation center for the elderly with a good, modern quality of life.

After 50 years of establishment and development, Thong Nhat Hospital is oriented to be a comprehensive, specialized, high-tech geriatric hospital. Every day, the hospital receives from 4,500 to 5,000 outpatient visits, with an inpatient capacity of 1,200 beds but is always overloaded. Patients are mainly elderly people in Ho Chi Minh City and have many diseases.

The Gerontology Conference in the Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence era took place for 1.5 days with nearly 200 scientific reports. This was an opportunity for experts to share experiences, connect with domestic and international cooperation, especially emphasizing topics on elderly health care and the application of digital transformation technology in modern medicine, with the ultimate goal of providing more comprehensive health care for the people.
