, a locality bordering Cambodia, for treatment.
According to Master, Doctor, Specialist II Nguyen Thanh Sang - Head of General Surgery Department, Xuyen A Tay Ninh General Hospital - a locality bordering Cambodia, Mr. S. was hospitalized with dull pain in the epigastric region and around the navel, accompanied by vomiting and prolonged fatigue.
Through in-depth examination and CT scan, doctors discovered that in addition to the liver tumor, which was considered the main source of the disease, his left lung also had suspected metastatic lesions, making the diagnosis process even more complicated.
Faced with this situation, a team of interdisciplinary doctors from General Surgery, Oncology, and Cardiovascular - Thoracic departments consulted and developed a cautious treatment strategy.

The medical team performed endoscopic surgery to remove the lung tumor.
Initially, the doctors agreed to perform a lobectomy to take tissue samples to determine the nature of the lesion. The subsequent pathology results showed that the lung tumor was not a metastatic lesion from the liver.
This is important information to help the medical team to be able to perform radical surgical intervention to treat the primary tumor in the liver.
So the thoracic endoscopic surgery was performed using minimally invasive techniques with high precision.
The patient was approached through two small trocars, the doctors performed dissection, isolated the lesion in the upper left lung lobe and used the EndoGIA device to remove the tumor, ensuring safety and effectiveness. After surgery, the lung expanded well, no air leakage, and the patient recovered quickly, eligible to move on to the next stage of treatment.
Based on the histological results confirming that the lung tumor was not metastatic, the treatment team quickly performed liver resection surgery as planned.

Open surgery to completely treat liver damage in Cambodian patient.
Surgeons reassessed liver damage, determined appropriate resection margins, and closely controlled bleeding throughout the surgery.
"The surgery went smoothly, preserving as much of the healthy liver as possible, helping the patient's body maintain stable liver function after surgery. After surgery, the patient was alert, responsive, received care, and is actively recovering at the General Surgery Department" - Dr. Sang informed.
According to experts, combining two surgeries in the same treatment strategy helps to both accurately diagnose and thoroughly treat the source of the disease.
"The results clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of the multidisciplinary coordination model at the hospital, especially in the treatment of complex cancer cases," the expert added.
The success of these two consecutive surgeries not only brought hope of life to patient S., but also marked an important step forward in cancer treatment capacity at the hospital on the Vietnam-Cambodia border.
