| The music nights were held at popular spots for young people, such as in the heart of the Western Quarter and along the Perfume River. |
Small space, big story.
Late in the afternoon by the Perfume River, as the last rays of sunlight cast a golden glow on the water's surface, the first melodies began to emanate from the outdoor stage. Many foreign tourists passing by the Truong Tien Bridge area stopped to watch, film, and immerse themselves in the musical atmosphere.
“Where to go? What to listen to?” was born as a new meeting place for the music-loving community. The project was founded by the Phu Xuan Ward Public Service Center, Mien Trung Audio Technik, and Two Thousand Band, with the goal of developing community music and creating more opportunities for young artists in Hue .
Sharing his experience, Dang Nhan, bassist of Nokar Band, said he was particularly impressed with the well-planned investment in sound and visuals for the show. According to him, the outdoor performance space on the banks of the Perfume River with a view towards Truong Tien Bridge created a unique experience for both performers and visitors.
"When performing in that setting, the music becomes closer to the audience," Nhân shared. According to him, it is the direct interaction between the performer and the audience that makes the concert memorable. The moments when the audience sings along and responds together create a rare atmosphere of connection, something that not every stage can provide.
Singer H'La Vi Bkrong, who joined the show from the second episode, said she came to the program through friends in the music industry and was quickly captivated by the free spirit of the platform. “Here, I feel like I’m singing for my friends; there’s no longer a distance between artist and audience. That creates a very genuine and special energy,” she said. According to La Vi, this closeness makes her performances more natural, allowing her to clearly feel the audience’s gaze and emotions…
An environment for young bands to hone their skills.
Beyond simply organizing performances, "Where to go? What to listen to?" is also envisioned as a space connecting the music-loving community in Hue. According to Quoc Huy, representative of Mien Trung Audio Technik, the project was born out of a growing demand for live music in many places, but Hue still lacks platforms for young artists. "We want to create a new impetus for live music in Hue, not just a single concert, but a professionally produced product that can have a lasting impact," he shared.
According to Mr. Le Cong Tai, Director of the Public Service Center of Phu Xuan Ward, after the merger, the locality is orienting its development on the foundation of heritage linked with tourism and community cultural life. Recognizing that the space along the Perfume River is suitable for organizing artistic activities, the unit, together with youth groups, built "Where to go? What to listen to?" as a meeting point for locals, tourists, and artists.
Two editions have already been held and attracted considerable audience interest. However, according to Mr. Le Cong Tai, the organizing committee is not yet considering this a final success and will continue to listen to feedback to improve the program in future editions. In the future, "Where to go? What to listen to?" plans to include songs about homeland and country, while also increasing interaction between the band and the audience to create a more intimate cultural space for the people of the ancient capital and tourists.
