On May 26th, the Global Mobile Association (GSMA) – an international organization representing the comprehensive mobile ecosystem – officially announced the awarding of the GSMA Government Leadership Award 2026 to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. This is the world's most prestigious award for digital policies, honoring a nation that exemplifies the harmonious combination of strategic leadership vision and effective practical implementation.

International news reports: Vietnam - Thailand: Expanding economic space from a new strategic foundation.

The upgrading of Vietnam-Thailand relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has created a solid foundation for promoting deeper and more substantive bilateral economic cooperation, especially through the official visit to Thailand by General Secretary and President To Lam. In the 50-year history of diplomatic relations, economic ties are not limited to goods exchange but are expanding into strategic areas such as logistics, supply chains, green economy, and digital transformation, with the goal of soon increasing bilateral trade to US$25 billion. With trade reaching US$22.1 billion by 2025 and significant Thai investment in Vietnam, the two countries are aiming to leverage the strong complementarity between Vietnam's manufacturing and labor strengths and Thailand's experience in distribution, services, and supporting industries to participate more deeply in regional value chains. Furthermore, promoting "soft connections" such as inter-regional tourism and "hard connections" through logistics and infrastructure in the Mekong sub-region is expected to become a crucial driving force in realizing commitments into concrete projects, thereby not only expanding bilateral economic space but also contributing to strengthening ASEAN's central role.

Petroleum sector

The Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper published an article titled: The Ministry of Industry and Trade addresses misunderstandings on social media regarding the use of E10 gasoline.

The upcoming switch to E10 gasoline, effective June 1st, has garnered significant attention, particularly regarding concerns about engine durability. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, negative information circulating on social media about E10 gasoline causing engine damage or fires is largely based on personal speculation and lacks scientific evidence. In reality, most modern vehicles (cars and motorcycles using electronic fuel injection systems manufactured from 2011 onwards) and new agricultural machinery are fully compatible and operate stably with E10 gasoline. For specific vehicle groups, such as those manufactured before 1990, those using older carburetors, or collectible vehicles, the Ministry of Industry and Trade recommends that users inspect and replace old rubber components or maintain the fuel lines to ensure safety. Furthermore, E5RON92 gasoline will be available until the end of 2030, giving people more suitable options for older appliances, ensuring efficient operation without worrying about costs or technical issues.

The websites thesaigontimes.vn and znews.vn reported: Ministry of Industry and Trade: Not maintaining E10 and RON95 fuel in parallel to avoid increasing logistics costs.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the decision not to maintain both E10 and RON95 gasoline simultaneously aims to avoid unnecessary logistics, storage, and distribution costs, while enhancing the effectiveness of the green energy transition policy. The Ministry affirms that this is not an imposed decision but a step in the sustainable development roadmap, ensuring energy security and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This transition is considered feasible because E10 gasoline is suitable for most current vehicles, and the transition mainly requires operational adjustments, not large-scale new infrastructure investment. To date, the supply capacity of E100 ethanol and the blending capacity of key distributors have been prepared, ensuring nationwide demand is met.

The Hanoi Security Newspaper published the following information: Ministry of Industry and Trade: No imposition or restriction on consumers' right to choose to use E10 gasoline.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan affirmed that the implementation of the nationwide distribution roadmap for E10 bioethanol fuel from June 1, 2026, according to Circular No. 50/2025/TT-BCT, is not an imposition or restriction on consumer choice, but a strategic step to realize the policy of green energy transition, ensure energy security, and fulfill international commitments on emission reduction. This roadmap is implemented step by step, with thorough impact assessments. E5 bioethanol fuel will continue to be distributed in parallel for the next five years (until 2030) to be compatible with older vehicle models. The Ministry will also focus on ensuring a stable supply, fuel quality, and transparency of information to protect consumer rights.

Import and export sector

VTV online news reports: Vietnam imports more cashew nuts than it exports.

Despite continuing to hold the world's leading position in cashew kernel exports, Vietnam's cashew industry faces the paradox of heavy reliance on imported raw materials. After importing, Vietnamese businesses carry out deep processing, separating kernels, roasting, packaging, and then exporting to the US, EU, China, and many other markets. This shows that Vietnam currently plays a more central role in cashew processing for the world than a country that is completely independent in terms of raw material sources. The Vietnam Cashew Association warns that if Vietnam does not take control of its raw material sources, its leading position in cashew kernel processing and export could be affected in the near future.

Domestic market sector

The website doanhnhan.congly.vn reported: More than 150 businesses engaged in trade and connected to green agricultural supply chains.

The International Exhibition of Modern Agricultural Supplies (AMAI Vietnam 2026) has officially opened, bringing together over 150 domestic and international businesses for trade across a 3,000 m² exhibition area. The event serves as a crucial platform for producers, distributors, and partners to connect and access new farming technologies, while promoting sustainable green agriculture through the introduction of biological products and safe solutions. With the participation of international organizations and discussions on digital transformation, the exhibition not only creates opportunities to expand markets for Vietnamese businesses but also contributes to improving input quality, meeting stringent standards, and enhancing the competitiveness of agricultural products in the international market.

The website bnews.vn published the following information: Gia Lai agricultural products face rigorous "tests" before entering supermarkets.

The series of activities connecting supply and demand for agricultural products in Gia Lai province in 2026 frankly pointed out the fundamental "bottlenecks" that local agricultural products face when penetrating modern distribution channels. Despite possessing great potential with many diverse OCOP products, Gia Lai agricultural products are still facing rigorous "tests" from large retailers such as Central Retail, Bach Hoa Xanh, and Vinanutrifood, focusing on requirements for consistent quality, clear traceability, and especially the long-term stability of the supply chain. To overcome this barrier, businesses and cooperatives need to shift their production mindset from small-scale to standardized, and receive support from the industry and trade sector in perfecting technical processes and legal documentation to create a sustainable consumption chain in the future.
