Energy sector

Hanoi Moi Newspaper reports: Ensuring electricity supply for growth: Hanoi proactively takes the lead.

To meet the growing demand for electricity, EVNHANOI has identified investment in and upgrading of the power grid infrastructure as one of its key priorities. From the early months of 2026, a series of power grid projects have been implemented with urgent progress.

In addition, EVNHANOI is investing in upgrading the capacity of existing substations such as Phu Nghia and Hai Boi; implementing projects such as the 110kV Nam An Khanh and Phu Cat substations and connecting power lines, contributing to improving transmission capacity, reducing the load on substations operating near their capacity, and increasing the flexibility of the power system.

Notably, investment in infrastructure for new urban areas, industrial zones, and rapidly developing areas prioritizes the provision of integrated power infrastructure from the outset, minimizing the risk of overload when the area becomes operational.

Alongside infrastructure investment, EVNHANOI continues to promote the development of smart grids. SCADA/DMS systems, remote electronic meters, and medium-voltage grid automation enhance monitoring, control, and operational optimization capabilities. As a result, fault detection and resolution times are shortened, improving the reliability of electricity supply.

Another important solution is to promote energy conservation and demand management. Given the difficulty in rapidly adding new power sources, efficient electricity use is considered a sustainable "second energy source."

Demand response (DR) programs continue to be widely implemented, especially in large manufacturing businesses. In residential areas, the application of digital technology helps people monitor their electricity consumption in real time, a crucial factor in developing energy-saving habits.

Import and export sector

The News newspaper published an article titled: Vietnamese coffee accelerates its entry into the premium segment in Germany.

At the Kaffee Campus 2026 event held on May 5th in Berlin – one of the major forums of the European coffee industry organized by the German Roast Coffee Association – many Vietnamese businesses brought specialty coffees, "Clean Label" coffees, and sustainably farmed products to gain deeper access to the German market.

At the Vietnamese exhibition area organized by the Vietnamese Trade Office in Germany, businesses such as Phuc Sinh Corporation, Dung Loi, and Don Elephant showcased various climate change adaptation production models while promoting products targeting the premium coffee segment. Notably, Vietnamese businesses are gradually shifting from exporting raw coffee beans to building brands of roasted and ground coffee and specialty coffee with higher added value.

According to businesses participating in the event, European consumers are now interested not only in product quality but also in the "story" behind the coffee bean. Production models linked to local communities, ethnic minorities, or cultivation under natural forest canopy are gaining strong appeal in the market.

On this occasion, the Vietnam Trade Office in Germany introduced and invited German businesses and coffee buyers to participate in the International Supply Chain Exhibition 2026, which will take place from September 3-5 in Ho Chi Minh City.

The website mekongasean.vn published the following information: The Ministry of Industry and Trade is about to organize a Vietnam Trade Week in Japan.

According to the Department of Foreign Market Development, in order to support businesses in promoting exports to foreign distribution systems, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will cooperate with AEON Group of Japan to organize the "Vietnam Goods Week at AEON Supermarket System in Japan in 2026" program.

The expected scale is 10-20 Vietnamese businesses operating in the fields of food, consumer goods and household products, personal care and mother and baby products, clothing and accessories, and pet products.

The event will take place from June 10-14, 2026 in Tokyo and Saitama Prefecture, Japan. The deadline for registration is May 16, 2026.

The event will include activities such as one-on-one business matching between Vietnamese enterprises and AEON's purchasing department; visits and learning experiences from AEON's supplier factories; and the display and introduction of Vietnamese products at Laketown Shopping Center, Saitama Prefecture, Japan.

"Vietnam Goods Week 2026" also included a workshop to provide guidance on AEON's future needs and important considerations for businesses wishing to become suppliers.

The website doanhnghiepvn.vn published an article titled: Cambodia tightens customs procedures, export businesses face difficulties.

The Vietnam Trade Office in Cambodia announced that, starting May 2nd, 2026, Cambodian customs authorities at major border crossings will strictly tighten customs clearance procedures for goods imported from various countries, including Vietnam. Under the new regulations, only vehicles with complete documentation, including certificates of origin, quarantine certificates, and other relevant shipment documents, will be allowed to clear customs.

Inspections are applied at all border crossings with customs clearance operations between the two countries, to varying degrees. For officially imported and exported goods, Cambodia still allows customs clearance, but the processing time is longer due to stricter inspection procedures. However, goods with specific characteristics, which require flexibility in trade to serve consumer needs, are facing many difficulties, especially at main and secondary border crossings.

At the Cambodian border, shipments lacking complete documentation will not be cleared. Meanwhile, businesses also face difficulties in bringing goods back to Vietnam due to high costs. Simultaneously, Cambodia is strengthening its management and penalties for oversized and overloaded vehicles. In the first three months of 2026, transportation costs, including taxes and fees, were adjusted upwards, partly due to rising fuel prices.

Domestic market sector

Lam Dong Newspaper reports: OCOP and the challenges after certification.

After receiving OCOP certification, many agricultural products in Lam Dong face the challenge of maintaining quality, expanding markets, and achieving sustainable development. Many businesses are still struggling to find their way forward after receiving this "passport."

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, to address the challenges after certification, the province will focus on building and protecting OCOP brands; applying digital technology in product traceability and consumption; and expanding e-commerce channels. Simultaneously, it will develop logistics and warehousing infrastructure in key production areas to reduce intermediary costs and enhance competitiveness.

Mr. Vo Ngoc Hiep, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, stated that the province is focusing on developing large-scale, highly efficient agriculture with increased value, prioritizing key products such as vegetables, flowers, coffee, pepper, mulberry, silk, and fruit trees (durian, avocado, passion fruit, dragon fruit, grapes). Simultaneously, the province aims to establish specialized farming areas adapted to climate change; promote technology, innovation, and digital transformation; and link production with processing industries, mechanization, and modernization of the supply chain.

It is clear that, after OCOP certification, the important thing is not just "meeting the standards" but maintaining sustainable value and gradually establishing a foothold in the market.

The website doanhnghiepvn.vn published the following information: Bac Ninh achieves breakthrough in lychee preservation, selling over 100 tons thanks to rapid cooling technology.

According to Vifoco Bac Giang Import-Export Joint Stock Company, the company has just completed the sale of over 100 tons of lychees preserved using modern refrigeration technology.

Thanks to the application of rapid freezing methods, lychees retain their freshness for a long time, meeting the diverse needs of the market, from direct consumption to processing into dishes such as lychee sweet soup, lychee porridge, or lychee-based drinks.

According to the company representative, the success of this shipment has opened up new avenues for the lychee industry. This year, the company will continue to invest in additional equipment and implement preservation processes according to Japanese standards to improve product quality.

Currently, the company has partnered with many farms to ensure a stable supply of raw materials for large-scale production.

Competition and consumer protection

The website nguoiquansat.vn reports: Urgent warning from the Ministry of Industry and Trade: A series of products dangerous to children may have entered Vietnam.

The habit of buying imported goods through online platforms is inadvertently paving the way for dangerous products to enter the living rooms of many Vietnamese families. On May 4th, the National Competition Commission under the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued an urgent bulletin. The agency sounded the alarm about a long list of goods being urgently recalled in the US and Australia by April 2026. Most worryingly, the context of borderless trade means these high-risk items could very well be circulating and in the hands of domestic consumers.

The National Competition Commission's warning is not simply a routine administrative notice. It's a direct reminder of the loopholes in the uncontrolled preference for foreign goods. International e-commerce platforms are blurring geographical boundaries. This means that defective products from across the globe can land right on your doorstep via unofficial import channels with just a few clicks.

Authorities are urging citizens to immediately check all imported household appliances, electrical equipment, and children's toys. The review process requires careful comparison of each barcode, batch number, and brand name against the published international warning list. Products with small parts, button batteries, or children's seat cushions must be kept completely away from children's play areas.

Faced with lurking risks, the safest solution right now is the vigilance of those holding the payment cards. Families need to immediately discontinue use of any items showing signs of wear and tear, blistering, or emitting strange odors. More than ever, choosing to buy from authorized distributors with complete traceability labels is the steel shield protecting the lives and property of every household.

Hanoi Moi Newspaper published an article titled: Preventing fake promotions, increasing consumer confidence.

According to the National Competition Commission (Ministry of Industry and Trade), many current promotional programs are designed to emphasize perceived benefits such as discount percentages and savings, while obscuring the actual total cost that consumers have to pay.

One typical example is the use of "original price" that doesn't accurately reflect market value. A product listed at 1,000,000 VND and then reduced to 500,000 VND might give the impression of a 50% discount. However, if the prevailing price before that was only around 550,000 VND, the actual discount would only be slightly more than 9%. The selection of an inaccurate "original price" distorts consumers' perception of true value.

Furthermore, the "price excludes costs" phenomenon is quite common. Many products display attractive prices, but upon completion of payment, buyers are required to pay additional shipping fees, service charges, or other hidden costs. This separation makes it difficult for consumers to fully assess the value of the transaction at the time of decision-making.

Another type of promotion comes with complicated conditions such as applying discount codes, paying via e-wallet, meeting a minimum order value, etc. These conditions are often not clearly stated, making the attractive price seem like a pipe dream to most customers.

Notably, the phenomenon of "frequent promotions" is also diminishing the significance of the original price. When a product is almost always "on sale," the discounted price becomes the familiar price, while the original price becomes merely symbolic. This makes it difficult for consumers to determine the true price.

Given this situation, the National Competition Commission advises consumers to shift from passively receiving information to actively evaluating the overall transaction. Instead of just looking at the discount, buyers need to determine the total actual cost, including shipping fees, surcharges, and applicable terms and conditions.
