Currently, there are no specific regulations on failing scores for high school graduation exams. According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, failing scores for high school graduation exams are the minimum scores prescribed for the exams and component subjects of the combined exam registered for graduation. If a candidate has a score equal to or lower than the limit score, it is considered a failing score.

Article 42 of the Regulations issued together with Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDDT stipulates that the cases eligible for consideration for recognition of high school graduation are: "Candidates who are eligible to take the exam, are not subject to disciplinary action to cancel their exam results, all exams and component subjects of the combined exam registered for consideration for graduation recognition all achieve above 1.0 points on a 10-point scale and have a graduation score of 5.0 points or higher are recognized as high school graduates".
From that, it can be seen that the failing score in the 2024 high school graduation exam is 1.0 point on a 10-point scale.
Article 3 of the Regulations on high school graduation exams issued with Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDDT, the Ministry of Education and Training organizes 5 high school graduation exams, including:
3 independent exams are Math, Literature, Foreign Language.
1 Natural Science exam includes the components Physics, Chemistry, Biology.
1 Social Science exam includes the components of History, Geography, and CivicEducation for candidates studying the general education program at high school level or the components of History and Geography for candidates studying the biology program at the continuing education program at high school level.
Thus, if just one subject in the natural science group (or social science) gets a score of 1 or lower, equal to 1, or 1 of the 3 compulsory subjects (Math, Literature, Foreign Language) gets a score of 1 or lower, equal to 1, then the candidate is not eligible to graduate from high school this year.
This means that candidates cannot use the results of the subject combination with a failing score to apply for university or college admission.
The 2024 high school graduation exam nationwide has a total of 1,067,391 candidates registered to participate, 43,328 more than in 2023. Of which, the number of independent candidates is 45,344. Due to the increase in candidates, the number of exam scores this year also increased, nationwide there are 2,323 exam locations, 45,149 exam rooms.
The provinces and cities with the largest number of candidates registering for the exam include: Hanoi : 109,078 candidates; Ho Chi Minh City: 88,196 candidates; Thanh Hoa: 38,677 candidates.
