Innovate OCOP products to dominate the market

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - As one of the localities with a large number of OCOP products nationwide, Thanh Hoa province has recently supported and encouraged entities to continue investing, improving the quality and scale of production so that recognized OCOP products can affirm their brand and position in the market.

According to statistics from the Provincial Rural Development Program Coordination Office, by July 2025, Thanh Hoa province had 645 OCOP products, including 2 five-star OCOP products and 59 four-star products. After six years of development, hundreds of OCOP businesses have participated in re-certification or upgrading their product ratings, and most products, after being certified, have strived to innovate to gain a foothold in the market.

Recognized as an OCOP product in 2023, the Duong Van rice vermicelli production facility in Hoang Hoa commune is determined to continue innovating and developing its products to live up to the OCOP title. Immediately after receiving the OCOP certification, the facility invested in an automated vermicelli production line, from mixing the flour to pressing and rolling the vermicelli strands. Notably, they improved the traditional vermicelli drying method using mesh to ensure food safety and hygiene.

Mr. Le Van Duong, the owner of the facility, shared: "To produce white, chewy vermicelli noodles that meet food safety and hygiene standards, the facility always adheres to the requirements of not using bleaching chemicals, not adding artificial colors, not using preservatives, and drying the noodles naturally under gentle sunlight. The product is then packaged and stored according to proper procedures. Therefore, Duong Van rice vermicelli has guaranteed quality, beautiful color, and delicious flavor. On average, the facility produces 2-3 quintals of vermicelli per day."

In addition to focusing on improving product quality, Duong Van production facility has designed and printed eye-catching product packaging that reflects tradition while also having a unique appeal to customers and consumers.

Leveraging the local potential and advantages in macadamia cultivation and processing, Thanh Phat Macadamia Cooperative in Thuong Ninh commune has invested in machinery, raw materials, and human resources to maintain production. Through efforts to find markets, innovate production methods, diversify product designs, and adhere to food safety and hygiene standards in processing, in 2023, Damia Thanh Phat macadamia products were certified as a 3-star OCOP product.

Thanh Phat Macadamia Cooperative displayed its Damia macadamia OCOP product and some processed macadamia products at an event organized by the province.

According to Do Trong Hoc, Director of Thanh Phat Macadamia Cooperative: "After being recognized as an OCOP product, the production capacity and market demand for our products have increased. We not only focus on raw material procurement but also make many innovations in product processing. Besides traditional dried macadamia nuts, we have developed many other products to meet consumer needs and tastes, such as macadamia diet cakes; macadamia nut milk; shelled macadamia nuts, etc., with attractive packaging, labels, and traceability, building consumer trust. To increase product sales, the cooperative has connected with restaurant chains, supermarkets, and tourist destinations inside and outside the province."

Thanh Phat Macadamia Cooperative has also invested hundreds of millions of VND to purchase freeze-drying machines, packaging machines, vacuum sealing machines, and shelling machines to preserve the flavor and color of the product. As a result, the product is favored by consumers and widely consumed in Thanh Hoa and many provinces and cities nationwide.

According to many producers, while product design, packaging, and OCOP certification influence customer choices, product quality is the crucial factor in building consumer trust. Therefore, both before and after being recognized as an OCOP product, producers constantly innovate and upgrade their products to not only dominate the market within the province but also expand and maintain market share domestically, and eventually export.

According to Phan Xuan Hung, Head of the Planning and Synthesis Department and Team Leader of the OCOP Management Team (Provincial Office for Coordinating the New Rural Development Program): Besides supporting and encouraging businesses to develop OCOP products, the office regularly coordinates with localities to inspect and monitor the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of OCOP product quality. Simultaneously, it organizes numerous training courses and forums to share experiences in building and developing OCOP products, encouraging businesses to innovate their products. As a result, many products are increasingly establishing their quality and market reach, gradually expanding into the global market .
