Thanks to the program “Eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses”, many poor ethnic minority households in Lam Dong have had solid homes and stable lives. The new houses not only ensure social security but also ignite the spirit of mutual love in the community.

Happiness in the new home

Ward 3 (Ham Thuan Commune) is mainly inhabited by Cham people. Here, many households do not have land for production and have to work for hire, so they only have enough money to cover their daily living expenses. Over time, many houses have seriously deteriorated with punctured corrugated iron roofs and cracked walls, allowing rain to leak and sunlight to shine directly into the house. Faced with this situation, the People's Committee of Ham Thuan Commune has called on benefactors to build new houses for households in difficult circumstances, with priority given to ethnic minorities. In 2024, the locality built 3 new houses, each worth 80 million VND, and 10 million VND to buy household appliances.

At the age of nearly 60, Mrs. Dung Thi Phuong Lan (Cham ethnic, Ham Thuan commune) is happy to live in a spacious house with two bedrooms and a living room for the first time. She choked up and said: “Since I was born, I have only known how to be attached to the old house, through many generations I have not been able to save up to build a new home. My daughter has a mental illness, the whole family's economy depends on my hired labor. We never dared to think that one day we would be able to live in a solid house with brick walls and tiled floors like this.”

These are not only new houses but also a solid foundation for people to settle down and start a business. Mrs. Dong Thi Huong (61 years old, Cham ethnic group) happily shared: "Since having the house, my mother and I have been determined to go to work to earn money to raise our grandchildren to be successful in their studies, so that in the future we can help those in more difficult circumstances."

For more than 6 years, Mr. Mang Sot (36 years old, Ra Glai ethnic group, Phan Son commune) and his wife and children have lived in a makeshift house with corrugated iron walls, wooden pillars, and a patchy cement floor. The rains and strong winds made the house shake, as if the corrugated iron roof was about to fly off. When he was included in the list of new houses to be built under the program "Eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses", Mr. Mang Sot borrowed an additional 40 million VND from the social policy bank. The new house worth 100 million VND is located in front of the corrugated iron house and the old house was converted into a kitchen. Mr. Mang Sot smiled and said, "My child now has a separate place to study. In the future, my wife and I also plan to have another child."

Every heart is a brick

The program "Eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses" spreads the spirit of humanity, community responsibility, promotes the strength of national solidarity, and improves the quality of life. Ms. Vong Chanh Kieu (official of the People's Committee of Song Luy commune) said that the commune has many ethnic minority households that are subject to the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses. "We went to each household to guide them in completing the documents and procedures for dividing plots to be granted land use right certificates. When the houses are completed, the joy is doubled to make up for the hard days. People no longer have to worry about the sun and rain, which is already a joy," Ms. Kieu shared.

Or a household in Bac Binh commune had a relative leave home, so they could not complete the land documents to build a new house. The judicial staff coordinated with many units such as the court, the commune's Department of Agriculture and Environment, the police... to complete the procedures for granting land use right certificates. In order to save on house construction costs, the Youth Union and staff supported the demolition of the old house or repair it. The construction unit even provided additional funding to complete the house.

When presenting a new house to a person in difficult circumstances, Mr. Tran Van Ly, Director of Binh Thuan Lottery Company Limited, said that he felt happy because he had helped people in difficult circumstances have a roof to protect them from the rain and sun. That is a profound expression of the spirit of humanity and community responsibility.

Mr. Nguyen Minh, Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, said: The smiles and joy of people receiving new houses are proof of the humanity of the program "Eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses". However, there are still many households waiting to receive a warm home. Therefore, organizations, businesses and individuals need to continue to promote the spirit of mutual love. The contributions of philanthropists have spread kindness, contributing to realizing the goal of leaving no one behind. Each heart is a solid brick to build a warm home for people in difficult circumstances. A new house brings happiness and is a spiritual support and belief for people to rise up in life.

According to the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions of the former Binh Thuan province, from August 2024 to June 30, 2025, the number of households supported to build new houses under Project 1 of the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas is 332, with 40 million VND/house. The total number of completed houses is 214, 98 are under construction, and 20 are not yet completed. The program also supports loans of up to 40 million VND according to Decree No. 28/2022/ND-CP of the Government.
