Promotion through various major events.
A recent highlight was the exhibition "80 Years of Independence - Freedom - Happiness" held at the National Exhibition Center (Dong Anh, Hanoi). At the exhibition, Hai Phong's booth showcased its socio -economic achievements and, especially, the distinctive cultural identity of the coastal region and the Red River Delta, making a strong impression on locals and many international visitors. Beyond cultural artifacts and products, Hai Phong also presented an elaborate artistic program: traditional Vietnamese opera (cheo), reformed opera (cai luong), folk singing (hat van), and modern music and dance. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy, Director of the Hai Phong Traditional Stage Theatre, stated: "We not only performed for the audience but also wanted to send a message about the unique cultural identity of the port city."
People from many provinces and cities, as well as international friends, who attended the exhibition, highly appreciated Hai Phong's art program. Mr. Ha Dang Dung ( Hanoi ) shared: "Through the performances, I clearly felt the vitality of Hai Phong's traditional art and gained a deeper understanding of this land."
Previously, in July 2025, Hai Phong hosted the 3rd APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC 3) meeting. The event brought together leaders and businesses from 21 APEC economies. Not only did the city meticulously organize all activities, but it also saw this as an opportunity to promote its beautiful natural scenery, friendly and open-minded people, unique cultural traditions, and outstanding tourism potential. Within the framework of the conference, many special artistic programs were organized, such as water puppetry, Quan Ho folk singing, traditional instrumental music ensembles, and even international music performed on the bầu and tranh zithers... making a strong impression on delegates and international friends. Mr. Tran Quoc Kien, Deputy Director of the Hai Phong Traditional Theatre, commented: “Each performance served as a cultural bridge, helping international friends feel the spirit of integration and openness of Hai Phong.”
Also within the framework of the conference, the spouses of the delegates visited Chu Dau pottery village and Lan Ha Bay. Experiencing and exploring the natural beauty firsthand provided an unforgettable experience. Mrs. Hiromi Okase (Japan) shared: “The pottery products are very exquisite. When I personally painted the patterns, I clearly felt the skill and depth of Vietnamese culture.”
Along with hosting and organizing many major events, as well as engaging in cultural exchanges with many countries in the region and around the world, the city always maximizes opportunities to promote the value, depth, and unique cultural features of this coastal region. Theaters actively innovate and stage many programs, bringing traditional theatrical arts closer to the public. Simultaneously, many traditional craft products such as Chu Dau pottery, Duong Dong pottery, Chau Khe silver engraving, mung bean cakes, Cat Hai fish sauce, etc., appear at many international events and fairs, becoming "cultural ambassadors" in the global marketplace.
Hai Phong is gradually asserting its unique appeal to international friends as a locality with rich tangible and intangible heritage, along with diversity in art and traditional crafts, creating a diverse and rich culture.

Driving force for development and integration
To make culture a driving force for development, many cultural experts believe that Hai Phong needs to accelerate digital transformation in heritage promotion, from digital museums and virtual tours to AI and AR applications in multiple languages. Strengthening regional linkages and forming "Inter-provincial Heritage" tours connecting Hai Phong and Quang Ninh are also crucial. International cooperation should be more extensive, inviting international artists and experts to participate in local festivals.
Another important direction is to build a high-quality cultural workforce. Artists need to be proficient in traditional art forms, as well as skilled in foreign languages and communication. In addition, businesses should be encouraged to partner in event organization and multi-channel communication should be promoted to create a synergistic effect.
Major events such as the National Exhibition or the ABAC 3 Conference have demonstrated that culture is not only the "soul" of a region, but also a driving force for development and a "soft power" in international integration.
Ms. Tran Thi Hoang Mai, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, emphasized: “Political and economic events are golden opportunities for Hai Phong to promote its image to domestic and international friends, especially to introduce its scenic spots and landmarks. Of the 9 Vietnamese heritage sites recognized by UNESCO as World Natural Heritage sites, Hai Phong has 2. This shows that Hai Phong's development is based on the depth and richness of its culture, creating a unique attraction to welcome domestic and international friends.”
From theatrical arts and traditional crafts to magnificent natural landscapes, Hai Phong affirms that culture is the bridge, the shortest path to bringing the image of the locality to the world.
