World silver prices rose by nearly 2%.
Silver prices in the Asian market opened sharply higher today, December 11th. The spot price of silver was $61.81 per ounce, up $1.14 per ounce (equivalent to 1.89%) from the previous session. After more than 30 minutes of trading, the price remained stable at $61.82 per ounce.
This surge helped spot silver prices jump to nearly $62 per ounce on December 10, extending an impressive rally after the metal has risen more than 100% throughout 2025.
Silver is seen as a “gold substitute” and has become a focal point of speculation this year. This is due to expectations of tightening supply and strong industrial demand. The US has classified silver as an essential mineral and is seeking to expand its supply due to concerns about shortages.
This metal plays a crucial role in electronic components and many manufacturing industries. The upward trend in silver is also supported by the trend of seeking safe-haven assets at a lower price than gold, amid continued impressive gains in gold bullion.
