According to sources from Spain, Barcelona's deal to sign midfielder Bernardo Silva from Manchester City was progressing smoothly when it encountered an unexpected obstacle, stemming from manager Hansi Flick.
Bernardo Silva is said to have agreed with sporting director Deco to take a pay cut to join Barca. President Joan Laporta is also thrilled that the club has a rare opportunity to acquire a top midfielder on a free transfer .

The 31-year-old star spent many years playing at the highest level under Pep Guardiola and won almost every title during his nine years with Man City. He is considered one of the most complete midfielders in European football.
Hansi Flick highly values Bernardo Silva's qualities, talent, and experience. However, the problem is, he's unsure whether he needs the Portuguese midfielder for Barca's midfield.
The German strategist believes he possesses one of the best midfield lineups in the world . In the three central midfield positions, Barca currently has Pedri, De Jong, Gavi, Dani Olmo, Fermin Lopez, and Marc Bernal. In addition, they have versatile players who can also fill that role.
Therefore, Hansi Flick wondered, if Bernardo Silva arrived, what position would he play? He understood that a player of his caliber wouldn't come to Camp Nou to take on a secondary role, but to play a leading one.
Flick considers Pedri one of the best midfielders in the world. He also has complete faith in De Jong, Gavi, Olmo, Fermin, and Marc Bernal. That's why the Barca manager felt he didn't really need Bernardo Silva, not to mention that he could affect the team's already smoothly functioning structure.
