Speaking at the forum, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh emphasized that Vietnam needs to shift from the mindset of "growth at all costs" to the mindset of "sustainable development", from considering tourism as just a service industry, to seeing tourism as a creative, connected and value-sharing economic sector - a convergence of culture, economy, environment and technology.
Also attending the forum were Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung; Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc, former central and local leaders, leaders of ministries, departments, provinces and cities, and representatives of tourism ministries of various countries.
The 2025 Tourism Summit "Shaping the Future of Tourism: Towards Digital and Green Transformation" also opened.
At the forum, Minister of Culture and Sports Nguyen Van Hung raised important challenges that the Vietnamese tourism industry needs to address, such as: lack of specific mechanisms, difficulties in financial resources, energy consumption and waste disposal.
International experts also shared experiences in cooperation in implementing digital transformation and green transformation in the industry.
Ms. Kang Da-Eun - Secretary General of the Tourism Promotion Organization for Global Cities (TPO) said that she realized that Ho Chi Minh City can take the lead in joint tourism programs such as the VCLIP event connecting large destinations with smaller cities by actively linking with neighboring cities and acting as a fulcrum for the region, creating a model of sustainable urban tourism.
Speaking at the forum, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Dung said that Ho Chi Minh City hopes this will be an opportunity for all parties to share initiatives, discuss solutions and find a common voice for the theme of 2025, "Shaping the future of the tourism industry: Towards digital transformation and green transformation.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Dung - Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, as a message calling for consensus and response from all parties in finding solutions to reshape the global industry, it is hoped that through the forum, effective solutions will be found to build a common roadmap for the tourism industry to transform digitally and greenly to meet the needs of all parties involved to promote sustainable growth.

Speaking at the High-level Tourism Forum, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh emphasized that in the digital era and sustainable development, digital transformation and green transformation are not two separate paths, but are the "golden keys" to create combined strength. The Deputy Prime Minister requested the forum to study and develop a set of rules on digital tourism and green tourism, a set of common standards to encourage countries and businesses to apply.
Comrade Mai Van Chinh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister said that Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City tourism are facing the opportunity of a journey to create the future. In this journey, digital transformation is an opportunity to create personalized tourism and connect the community. Green transformation is not only a trend but also a responsibility and pride in bringing safe and sustainable destinations. This is the time when we all need to act decisively and closely connect. Those working in tourism, artisan businesses are ambassadors of the country. Each product and service tells a story that forms a dynamic, hospitable and unique Vietnam. We need to strongly transform the growth model, taking digital transformation as a driving force to improve service quality and experience.
At the opening session of the Forum, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Health announced a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in developing Medical Tourism. This is an important milestone, creating a legal foundation and orientation for close cooperation between the two sectors, contributing to the professional, sustainable development and international integration of Vietnam's Medical Tourism.
