This afternoon, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that the tropical depression in the eastern sea of the North East Sea has strengthened to level 7 and is likely to become storm number 7 this evening and tonight.

Representatives of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting informed: Favorable environmental conditions with sea surface temperature of 29-30 degrees Celsius, small wind shear and strong southwest wind, make the possibility of tropical depression developing into a storm up to 70-80%. If formed, this will be the 16th storm in the Northwest Pacific region and the 7th in the East Sea this year, with the international name Tapah.
According to meteorological experts, storm No. 7 is affected by the weakening subtropical high pressure tongue, so it is mainly moving in the northwest direction. With this trajectory, the storm is unlikely to go deep into Vietnam's mainland, but is forecast to make landfall in Guangdong province (China) on September 8 with a strong intensity of level 10-11, gusting to level 13-14.
Currently, the assessment of the Vietnam Meteorological Agency is similar to that of international forecasting centers when determining that the storm will reach its strongest intensity before making landfall in China, then quickly weaken into a tropical depression.
A representative of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that the difference of storm No. 7 is that it formed quite far to the North of the East Sea and its direction of movement deviated much to the North. Although it did not make landfall directly in Vietnam, the storm's circulation is forecast to cause widespread heavy rain in the North from September 9 to 11, concentrated in the midlands and mountainous areas of the Northeast. This is an impact that people and authorities of communes in the North need to pay attention to in order to proactively prepare plans to prevent flash floods, landslides and inundation.
