Model of growing custard apples according to VietGAP standards of Van Linh commune people
At this time, people in the province are entering the chestnut harvest season. To produce these products, people have constantly learned and applied science and technology to production.
Mr. Chu Duc Phuong, a chestnut grower in Luong Van Tri ward, shared: My family has been growing chestnuts since 2020 with an area of over 1 hectare. During the production process, the family was informed and guided by specialized agencies on farming methods according to VietGAP standards. Farming in this direction is very effective, because the products produced are of better quality and safer, the chestnuts are larger, shinier, and have a more beautiful color. On average, each year, my family harvests about 500 kg of chestnuts, worth over 50 million VND, and the consumption market is expanding both inside and outside the province.
Not only households, cooperatives and cooperative groups are also actively producing agricultural products according to standards, improving product quality. For example, the VietGAP custard apple production cooperative group in Bang Huu commune. In 2024, the cooperative group was established with 17 members, with a production scale of 19 hectares. Mr. Ly Van Tiep, Head of the VietGAP custard apple production cooperative group in Bang Huu commune, said: The cooperative group was oriented and supported by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Chi Lang district (old) and the commune government to develop production in the direction of VietGAP, thanks to which, the quality and design of the products were improved, productivity increased by 10 - 15% compared to traditional care methods, and the selling price was also higher by 5,000 - 10,000 VND/kg. On average, each year, the cooperative group's custard apple harvest output reached about 100 tons, bringing in a revenue of about 3.5 billion VND.
According to statistics from the professional sector, currently, the trend of agricultural production towards VietGAP, GlobalGAP, organic has been developing in various fields. In particular, the cultivation sector has over 6,700 hectares of various crops produced and certified according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP, organic standards (an increase of over 2,000 hectares compared to 2023). Currently, the whole province has developed areas for the production of high-value agricultural products such as: vegetable area of over 9,700 hectares, estimated value of 580 billion VND, VietGAP, organic area of 77.95 hectares; specialty rice area, high quality 3,370 hectares, estimated value of 140 billion VND, VietGAP area of over 1,550 hectares; sweet potato and potato area of 1,420 hectares, estimated value of over 130 billion VND, VietGAP area of 64.42 hectares; Custard apple area 4,543 hectares, estimated value of 1,500 billion VND, VietGAP, GlobalGAP area 1,951 hectares; Bao Lam seedless rose area, Vanh Khuyen rose area 1,960 hectares, estimated value of 400 billion VND, VietGAP area 472 hectares...
Production according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP, and organic standards not only helps improve the quality and value of agricultural products but also creates confidence for consumers in the safety and origin of products; easily accessing modern distribution channels such as supermarkets and clean food stores. Currently, in the province, products such as custard apples, organic vegetables, etc. are brought into supermarkets for consumption. In addition, every year, relevant agencies and units have organized many activities to connect, promote, and introduce products to contribute to expanding the product consumption market, increasing income and promoting sustainable production development for farmers.
Ms. Phung Thi Kim Khanh, Head of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, Department of Agriculture and Environment, said: In recent years, the department has advised the Department of Agriculture and Environment to direct its affiliated units to implement production models according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP, and organic standards. Accordingly, during the implementation of the model, people and cooperatives are trained in planting and care techniques according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP, and organic standards; are supported with agricultural materials such as fertilizers, biological pesticides, etc. and are supported with certification of meeting VietGAP, GlobalGAP, and organic standards. Thanks to that, the area of safe, organic cultivation in the field of cultivation is increasingly expanding, and the products produced meet the requirements of food safety and good quality.
Safe agricultural cultivation not only brings higher economic efficiency than traditional production methods but also serves as a basis for developing production chains, expanding consumption markets, and developing brands. In addition to economic benefits, the development of safe agriculture in the direction of VietGAP, GlobalGAP, and organic also has a positive impact on the environment, helping to minimize soil, water, and air pollution by minimizing the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
