According to the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC), on August 4th, the An Thi Area Power Management Team - Hung Yen Power Company (under EVNNPC) received a complaint from customer Tran Thi Thu, residing in Mai Xuyen village, An Thi commune, regarding a high electricity bill.
Shortly afterwards, on August 5th, electricity company personnel came to conduct an on-site inspection. The results showed that the metering system was functioning normally.
The cause was identified as a broken insulation on the customer's meter wiring, causing an electrical leak and leading to increased electricity consumption.
However, at around 2 PM on September 4th, the customer's husband – whose Facebook account is "Ho Truong" – livestreamed, complaining that "the wire after the meter was disconnected last month, but the meter is still spinning, generating 150 kWh."
Later that same afternoon, the An Thi District Power Management Team went directly to the scene to inspect and work with the customer's family.
Verification results show that the wire after the customer's meter was disconnected on August 5th, therefore the 150 kWh generated between August 1st and August 5th means the leakage occurred before the wire was disconnected.
After a clear explanation, the customer understood, agreed, and voluntarily removed the post from their personal Facebook account.
Even though the client removed the post, many Facebook and TikTok pages still copied and reposted the old livestream video , even editing and adding misleading content to attract views and increase interaction, causing misunderstandings among the public.
Notably, according to the Northern Power Corporation, some websites associated with the reactionary organization Viet Tan have exploited the incident to spread inaccurate information, causing negative impacts, damaging the reputation of the power industry, and creating panic among the people.
On the afternoon of September 5th, the An Thi District Power Management Team, in coordination with the customer, worked with the An Thi Commune Police. During the meeting, customer Tran Thi Thu and her husband Ho Van Truong admitted that they had not contacted the power company to verify the information before livestreaming, leading to inaccurate content that was exploited, causing misunderstandings and spreading negativity on social media.
The Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) and Hung Yen Power Company advise people to be cautious and carefully verify information before posting or sharing it on social media; if you have questions about electricity consumption or electricity bills, customers should contact the EVNNPC Customer Care Center directly at 1900 6769 or visit regional power company offices for timely verification and answers.
The electricity sector is committed to working with customers to inspect meters, compare readings, check billing schedules, and explain the electricity billing method, ensuring transparency, openness, and accuracy.
At the same time, the electricity sector recommends that households regularly inspect their home electrical systems to detect and promptly address any leaks or short circuits, ensuring safe, economical, and efficient electricity use. In addition, EVNNPC encourages customers to consider investing in rooftop solar power systems based on a self-production-self-consumption model to reduce electricity bills and contribute to environmental protection.
