Accordingly, the Food Safety Department received information on September 24, 2024, regarding a suspected food poisoning incident at Kien Hai Secondary and High School ( Kien Giang ). To date, 23 students have been affected and hospitalized for treatment.
The Food Safety Department requests the Kien Giang Provincial Department of Health to urgently direct hospitals to focus resources on actively treating patients, ensuring their health and lives are not affected. If necessary, they can request professional consultation support from higher-level hospitals.

The Department of Health will conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the suspected food poisoning incident in accordance with regulations, trace the origin of the food, collect food and biological samples for testing to determine the cause; strictly handle any violations of food safety regulations (if any) and publicly disclose the results to promptly warn the community.
In addition, the Food Safety Department requested the temporary suspension of operations of the unit providing the meal suspected of causing the food poisoning. Units were instructed to strengthen communication and guidance to collective kitchens and food service establishments to ensure hygiene and food safety conditions, strictly implement the management of food ingredient origins, three-step food inspection, food sample retention, and hygiene in all processing stages.
In addition, the Food Safety Department requires units to disseminate and educate the public on food safety knowledge and measures to prevent food poisoning, and to avoid using food without clear origin, labeling, or source.
