Mechanical Measurement - Optics, Sound and Vibration: Affirming the capacity to master national measurement technology

On October 3, 2025, in Hanoi, within the framework of the 8th National Conference on Measurement Science and Technology, the Vietnam Metrology Institute organized a scientific workshop on “Mechanical - Optical, Acoustic and Vibration Measurement” to share research results, discuss solutions and orientations for the development of the national standard system. The workshop was attended by many scientists and experts in the field of measurement.

Overview of the Workshop.

Presenting the research on establishing a torque reference standard, Mr. Pham Thanh Ha, Vietnam Metrology Institute, said that this is an important factor in the national standard system, ensuring the accuracy of measuring devices and devices related to torque quantities, especially when science and technology (KH&CN) are strongly developing. Vietnam Metrology Institute has successfully established a torque reference standard with a measurement range from 20 N·m to 2200 N·m, measurement uncertainty U = 5.10⁻⁵ - with torque reference machines of developed countries in the world. This result affirms the ability to master design and manufacturing technology, opening up the possibility of producing similar devices for many different measurement ranges. At the same time, the Institute is also implementing procedures to be recognized as CMCs, moving towards building a standard system into a national measurement standard in the field of torque.

Also at the Workshop, Mr. Vu Khanh Phan, Vietnam Metrology Institute introduced a new method of calibrating MIA rulers using interferometry combined with image processing techniques. Mr. Vu Khanh Phan said that MIA rulers are commonly used in geodesy to determine the height difference between two surfaces in the field of geodesy with an accuracy of up to (0.02 + 0.02L) mm. Experimental results show that the method of integrating cameras and image processing techniques achieves reliability equivalent to the traditional method, while improving accuracy, reducing measurement uncertainty, allowing calibration of MIA rulers, helping to automate the calibration process, improving measurement stability and saving time.

Within the framework of the Workshop, delegates also discussed and exchanged on: Methods of calibrating and classifying solar simulation systems; Optical system of multi-field mapping combined with compressed sampling in flycam detection; Application of infrared spectrometer to determine the refractive index of KO12 polycrystalline optical ceramic materials...

The workshop not only affirmed the research and application capacity of the Vietnam Metrology Institute, but also contributed to promoting the development of a modern national measurement standards system, international integration, effectively serving the development of science and technology and key economic and technical sectors.
