Putting people's safety first in the face of landslide risk

On the morning of October 4, Comrade Nguyen Van Son, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, and the working delegation of the Provincial People's Council inspected the landslide situation and visited the people of Ngoa village, Yen Phu commune. Accompanying them were Comrade Pham Thi Minh Xuan, Member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; leaders of the Fatherland Front Committee and a number of provincial departments and branches.

Due to the impact of storm No. 10, in recent days, Yen Phu commune has been experiencing prolonged heavy rain, causing serious landslides in many locations in Ngoa village. The long cracks and collapsed slopes pose a high risk, directly threatening the safety of people's lives and property. The incident did not cause any human casualties. To proactively prevent risks, Yen Phu commune authorities have urgently evacuated 28 households from the danger zone; the households have been temporarily sheltered at the village cultural house and kindergarten classrooms.

At the scene, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Nguyen Van Son and the working delegation directly inspected the landslide points and surveyed the areas at risk of further landslides. Talking with the leaders of Yen Phu commune, he emphasized: First of all, ensuring the safety of people's lives must be given top priority; absolutely do not let people return to dangerous places without a conclusion on safety assessment, especially at the present time when many weather factors are unfavorable, posing high risks. He requested the commune to urgently review and select suitable locations to develop a long-term resettlement plan to stabilize the lives of households.

He also noted that the local government should continue to do a good job of propaganda and mobilization so that people can understand and share the relocation policy. Temporary accommodation must be guaranteed with adequate living conditions, necessities, health care and mental stability. This is an important factor for people to feel secure in overcoming difficulties and accompanying the government in resettlement work.

During the working trip, the delegation visited and encouraged households living in temporary accommodation; presented gifts including essential necessities and supported 910 million VND to help households stabilize their lives in the near future. Comrade Nguyen Van Son expressed his sympathy and shared deeply about the difficulties and losses that the people are facing, and at the same time hoped that the people would promote the spirit of solidarity and closely coordinate with the local authorities during the relocation and resettlement process.

He also assigned the provincial authorities to closely coordinate with Yen Phu commune in surveying and comprehensively assessing the geological situation; advising on long-term and sustainable solutions. In the immediate future, it is necessary to provide timely support in terms of food, essential supplies, and care for particularly disadvantaged households, so that no one is left behind.
