A unique, massive trellis of vibrant red bougainvillea covers the entire house on the banks of the Ca Ty River.

These days, the bougainvillea vines at Mr. Hai Chuong's house are in full bloom. Every year, when the dry season arrives, the bougainvillea flowers bloom.

Mr. Hai Chuong's bougainvillea trellis is located at the end of Pham Van Dong Street, right next to the Ca Ty River and directly in front of the Dong Hai church gate, in Hung Long ward, Phan Thiet city.

Bougainvillea is commonly grown in arid, sunny coastal areas. The more sun it gets, the more profusely and brightly colored the flowers bloom. When planted in rows, this unassuming plant creates a stunning display of densely packed blossoms.

The homeowner said that the bougainvillea trellis is at its most beautiful from February to May. In the evenings or on weekends, many young couples, young women, and even elderly ladies wearing traditional Vietnamese dresses come to this bougainvillea trellis to take souvenir photos.

Young people often gather at Mr. Hai Chuong's house to take photos and videos. They may or may not offer drinks; everyone is welcome at his home.

Beneath the bougainvillea trellis, Mr. Hai Chuong runs a drinks stall, and in the evenings he also sells food, so the place is always crowded.

In particular, there's a trellis of bougainvillea right in front of the Phan Thiet port gate, where tourists often board boats to Phu Quy Island.

Thanh Tam, from Ho Chi Minh City, said she had known about this bougainvillea trellis while searching for Phan Thiet tourism information on social media, so as soon as she arrived, she immediately sought out Mr. Hai Chuong's house.

"For the past few years, tourists who disembark from boats to Phu Quy Island and then return to the mainland have stopped by my family's shop to rest and have a drink, so more people know about this bougainvillea trellis. My family never thought that planting bougainvillea would lead to so many people coming to admire it today," Mr. Hai Chuong shared.

Mr. Hai Chuong's bougainvillea trellis always attracts visitors who come to take photos.

The homeowner's family planted these bougainvillea plants 13 years ago, when they first built this house. The person who planted this bougainvillea trellis is Mr. Nguyen Khanh, a traditional folk music artist who performs cải lương (Vietnamese traditional opera) nightly on the banks of the Ca Ty River.

The bougainvillea trellis is right next to Dong Hai Church.

"My grandfather used to be a traditional Vietnamese opera singer in the Anh Sao troupe, performing every Friday night on the banks of the Ca Ty River. The bougainvillea trellis was planted by my grandfather; he's now 84 years old and frail," Mr. Hai Chuong recounted.

The bougainvillea trellis consists of 5 plants growing close together.

Life surrounded by bougainvillea in Phan Thiet

In Phan Thiet City, there are many streets lined with bougainvillea, most notably Vo Nguyen Giap Street, which boasts hundreds of bougainvillea trees in full bloom during the dry season. However, the bougainvillea trellis next to Dong Hai Church, near the Ca Ty River, belonging to Mr. Hai Chuong, is currently the most unique and always attracts young people and tourists to take souvenir photos.
