These days, engineers and workers are divided into many teams, working "with all their might" to implement the various components of the Deo Ngang road tunnel expansion project. Construction is being carried out simultaneously at both the South and North tunnel entrances. According to the construction unit's representative, they have drilled approximately 550 meters so far, and the remaining 5 meters will be completed in the coming days. According to observations, at the northern entrance of the tunnel in Hoanh Son ward ( Ha Tinh province), after drilling and removing soil and rocks, the tunnel lining has been reinforced with a steel frame and sprayed with concrete. A robot is pumping concrete onto the tunnel roof for reinforcement.
The contractor expects to begin drilling through the Deo Ngang tunnel in the next few days. To ensure safety during construction in a low-oxygen environment, workers are equipped with protective equipment, including gas masks. Meanwhile, at the southern entrance of the tunnel in Phu Trach commune ( Quang Tri province), the project implementing unit is also actively removing the last remaining soil and rocks, aiming to complete the tunnel drilling as soon as possible. The outside of the tunnel is covered with a reinforced slope to prevent landslides. Along with the construction of the Deo Ngang tunnel, the contractor is also simultaneously implementing the bridge and access road projects to the tunnel.
The Dong Bo Bridge north of the Deo Ngang Tunnel is nearing completion with 28 bored piles, the M2 abutment and T3 pier finished, and construction is underway on the T2 pier and the production of Super T girders. The Dong Muoi Bridge is currently excavating foundation pits for abutments M1 and M2. The northern section of the road in Ha Tinh province has completed the embankment, while the southern section in Quang Tri province is undergoing foundation excavation and installation of the drainage system along the route. The new Deo Ngang Tunnel is one of the projects included in the upgrade and expansion projects of several bridges and tunnels on National Highway 1, with a total investment of nearly 2,000 billion VND, approved by the Ministry of Construction at the end of December 2023. The Deo Ngang road tunnel and more than 2km of access roads to the tunnel alone have a construction value of over 340 billion VND. The new tunnel is 555m long and 10.5m wide. Upon completion, the Deo Ngang tunnel will operate with two tunnel tubes simultaneously, with a roadbed width of up to 20.5m, providing 4 lanes for motorized vehicles and 2 lanes for non-motorized vehicles.
