The 2026 National Age Group Swimming Championships is the second national-level competition of the year, organized by the Department of Physical Education and Sports , the Vietnam Aquatic Sports Association, and Dong Thap province. The Da Nang swimming team is participating with 13 athletes. Swimmers from the city and across the country will compete in age groups including: under 13 years old, 14-15 years old, and 16-18 years old.
With their relentless efforts on the track, Da Nang athletes brought home 27 medals, including 14 Gold, 6 Silver, and 7 Bronze medals, ranking third overall.
Among the athletes who shone at the competition, Tran Van Nguyen Quoc was the most outstanding. He showcased his strength in the freestyle swimming event, winning 5 gold medals in the 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, and 1500m events. Furthermore, in the 100m butterfly, Nguyen Quoc overcame strong competitors to win his 6th gold medal.
Along with Nguyen Quoc, Nguyen Tri Viet had an impressive tournament with 4 gold medals in the 50m, 100m, 200m backstroke and 50m butterfly events. Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang was the female athlete with the best performance, bringing home 4 gold medals in the 100m, 200m butterfly and 200m, 400m individual medley events.
This result marks two consecutive successful tournaments for the Da Nang swimming team in 2026. Previously, at the National Swimming Championships (25m pool) held in Hue in early April, the city's athletes won 23 medals, ranking fourth overall and breaking a record. A positive sign is that veteran swimmers continue to perform at a high level, while many young talents are emerging and ready to follow in their footsteps.

Tran Van Nguyen Quoc, Nguyen Tri Viet, and Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang are the future of swimming in Da Nang. Nguyen Tri Viet, only 15 years old, is considered to have the potential to excel in the future. Meanwhile, Tran Van Nguyen Quoc and Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang have already demonstrated their talent through numerous domestic and international competitions at the age of 18, making significant contributions to the success of swimming in Da Nang and Vietnam. At the 33rd SEA Games in late 2025, Nguyen Quoc won 1 Gold Medal, 3 Silver Medals, and 1 Bronze Medal in his first participation.
The results at the 2026 National Age Group Swimming Championships also marked a turning point, as this was the last youth age group competition that Nguyen Quoc and Thuy Trang competed in. The experience gained from these competitions will serve as a foundation for these athletes to continue striving for new successes.
According to Da Nang swimming team coach Pham Truong Giang, swimming is a strong sport, so the coaching staff and athletes always maintain a determined spirit and strive to conquer competitions, bringing home the best results to contribute to the overall success of high-performance sports in Da Nang. After the 2026 National Age Group Swimming Championships, the Da Nang swimming team maintained serious training, aiming for the 2026 National Youth Swimming Championships on home soil in July.
