On May 29th, coach Lionel Scaloni announced the official 26-player squad for the Argentina national team participating in the 2026 World Cup. Along with captain Lionel Messi, Argentina will travel to the United States, Mexico, and Canada with the goal of defending their world title. Notably, Atletico Madrid contributed six players to this call-up.
Franco Mastantuono's exclusion from the squad for the world's most prestigious football tournament came as a major surprise. The young talent was unable to compete for a place in the attacking line, which already boasts many stars and established players in their national teams.

In addition, veteran defender Marcos Acuna – a member of the Argentina team that won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar – is also absent from the squad traveling to North America. Nevertheless, Scaloni still places his trust in the core group that achieved success at the 2022 World Cup.
Coach Scaloni built his team on a balance between experienced veterans and talented young players such as Enzo Fernandez, Alexis Mac Allister, Julian Alvarez, and Giuliano Simeone.
