American John Gotti III has been banned for six months for inciting a brawl with Floyd Mayweather after the referee stopped the fight in the sixth round of their fight in Florida.
On June 15, three days after the fight, the Florida State Athletic Commission announced a six-month ban on John Gotti III from competing in the state, while Mayweather received no punishment.
In the match in Florida on June 12, Mayweather dominated, continuously delivering accurate punches and forcing referee Kenny Bayless to wave his hand to stop the match in the sixth round.
Gotti III was not satisfied with this decision, tried to get around the referee and continued to throw punches at Mayweather. The American boxer raised his arms in defense and then threw a left hook to the face, forcing Gotti III to retreat to the middle of the ring. At this time, members of both teams and the organizing committee, including nearly 50 people, climbed into the ring and created a chaotic scene.
The brawl after the referee signaled the end of the match between Mayweather and Gotti III on June 11.
After the fight, Gotti III's sister Nicolette threatened Mayweather's daughter, posting a message on Instagram that the feud between the American and her brother was not over. Likewise, Gotti III insisted that the feud between the two would not end, and called on MMA legend Conor McGregor for help. The Irishman then joined in the social media spat.
According to TMZ , the two fighters have spoken and even discussed a rematch after tensions have calmed down. It is possible that Mayweather and Gotti III are deliberately creating controversy to attract more money and fan attention for the rematch. The two fighters cannot fight again in Florida for the next 6 months because of Gotti III's suspension, but they could hold the fight elsewhere.
"The 'brawl' between Mayweather and Gotti III after Bayless stopped the 'fight' was clearly scripted and staged," FS1 host Skip Bayless wrote on Twitter on the evening of June 11.

Gotti III pursued football as a child, but turned to martial arts on the advice of his father. He made his MMA debut against Johnny Adams in October 2017 and had a five-fight winning streak before losing his final bout to Nick Alley at CES MMA 61 in October 2020. He then moved into professional boxing and has two wins, most recently against Alex Citrowske in January 2023.
But Gotti III is better known as the nephew of John Gotti, the notorious boss of the Gambino crime family. According to Spanish newspaper Marca , the Gambino family had a fortune of $500 million during John Gotti's reign. With a net worth of $30 million, John Gotti is the ninth richest criminal in the world . His son and father, John Gotti III, is ranked 12th with a net worth of $10 million.
