At Thien Truong Stadium ( Ninh Binh ) on the evening of March 31st, the Vietnamese national team displayed an impressive performance, securing a 3-1 victory against Malaysia.
Besides Duy Mạnh's opening goal, striker Xuân Son attracted the most attention with a brace of goals to celebrate his 29th birthday, simultaneously responding to criticisms of his declining form or weight gain.

This victory extended Vietnam's unbeaten streak to 17 consecutive matches, and also marked their 13th consecutive win under coach Kim Sang-sik – setting a new winning record in Southeast Asian football.
The last time the Vietnamese national team failed to win was a 1-1 draw against the Philippines in the group stage of the ASEAN Cup 2024. After that, coach Kim Sang-sik's team won consecutively in the tournament against Myanmar, Singapore, and Thailand.
After winning the ASEAN Cup 2024, the Vietnamese national team continued to defeat Cambodia in a friendly match, followed by consecutive wins against Laos (2 matches) and Nepal (2 matches). Notably, coach Kim Sang-sik's team was awarded a 3-0 victory by the Asian Football Confederation against Malaysia in the first leg away match of the 2027 Asian Cup third round qualifiers, due to the opponent violating naturalization regulations, before going on to win 3-1 in the return leg on the evening of March 31st.
In the aforementioned series of matches, the Vietnamese national team scored 37 goals and conceded 7, an impressive performance over the past two years.
Previously, the longest winning streak for the Vietnamese national team was 6 matches, against Afghanistan, Singapore, India, the Philippines, Laos, and Malaysia in 2022 under coach Park Hang-seo.
Meanwhile, Vietnam's streak of 13 consecutive wins in Southeast Asia has far surpassed its rivals such as Indonesia (1968-1969), Thailand (1995-1996), and Singapore (2004-2005) - all of whom stopped at 9 wins.
A 3-1 victory against Malaysia helped the Vietnamese national team finish the third round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers at the top of Group F after six consecutive wins, becoming the only team in the group to qualify for the finals.
