In the first days of the new year of At Ty 2025, some offshore fishing boats of Phu Yen have returned to port. Going offshore smoothly, many boats have docked with high output, fishermen are excited because the first sea trip of the year was smooth sailing.
Good harvest at the beginning of the year
In the past few days, at fishing ports in the province, the working atmosphere has become bustling again after the Tet holiday. The offshore fishing trips during Tet have returned, fishermen have urgently unloaded seafood onto refrigerated trucks to take them to consumption. Although the price of tuna at the port is not high, the output is quite good, so many fishermen are excited and confident to go offshore.
On the morning of February 3 (the 6th day of the Lunar New Year), fishing boat PY96549TS in Phu Dong ward (Tuy Hoa city) arrived at Dong Tac fishing port. Although the weather was unfavorable, the crew was very excited about this trip as they encountered a good flow of fish. Captain Tran Van Nhut said: After 40 days of fishing during the Lunar New Year at sea, the total seafood catch was about 3 tons, of which about 60 tuna were caught, with a total weight of more than 2.8 tons.
After nearly 2 months of exploiting ocean tuna during Tet holiday in the fishing grounds of Truong Sa archipelago, fishing boat numbered PY90945TS, piloted by captain Vo Quoc Nguyen in Ward 6 (Tuy Hoa City), also arrived at Dong Tac fishing port on the 5th day of Tet, and on the morning of the 6th day of Tet, they unloaded the exploited seafood ashore. Everyone was excited when they brought ashore nearly 80 ocean tuna weighing 40-50kg each.
According to Captain Vo Quoc Nguyen, he and 5 crew members went fishing for tuna before the Lunar New Year 2025. Although celebrating Tet at sea, everyone was happy, because fishermen have long considered the sea their home. With the current selling price of 100,000 VND/kg, his boat earned more than 300 million VND. After deducting expenses of nearly 150 million VND, everyone on the boat will share the profit. This is not only the result after many days at sea but also the joy of fishermen contributing to maintaining fishing grounds and participating in protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
Not only did the ocean tuna fishing boats achieve high yields, but many purse seine fishing boats in Dong Hoa Town also had a good season. Mr. Phan Thanh Luc, Head of Phu Lac Fishing Port Management Board (Dong Hoa Town) informed: From January 28 to February 4 (December 29 to January 7), in Dong Hoa Town, there were 39 fishing boats arriving at Phu Lac port, most of them using purse seine, with a total yield of more than 20 tons of skipjack tuna, including one boat that exploited nearly 7 tons.
During the Lunar New Year 2025, the whole province has 47 fishing boats, with 280 workers exploiting seafood offshore during the Tet holiday, of which Tuy Hoa city has 42 fishing boats, with 256 workers. These fishermen celebrate Tet at sea and return to the mainland after Tet.
Mr. Ha Vien, Head of Phu Yen Fishing Port Management Board, said: From January 28 to February 4, in the province, 73 Phu Yen fishing boats arrived at 3 ports: Dong Tac (8 boats), Phu Lac (39 boats) and Dan Phuoc (26 boats) with a total seafood output of more than 50 tons. Dong Tac fishing port alone has 6 ocean tuna fishing boats, with a total seafood output of more than 12 tons, of which about 11 tons are ocean tuna.
Encourage fishermen to go offshore and stick to the sea
Now entering the new fishing season, offshore fishermen are busier than ever to take advantage of going offshore, with the hope that the first trip of the year will catch a lot of seafood, opening a lucky and fruitful fishing season.
Fisherman Vo Van Tien, owner of fishing boat PY91036TS in Phu Dong ward, shared: According to the experience of fishermen, usually at the beginning of the Northern fish season, ocean tuna appear and move from the Northern sea to the South. Also during this time, many large fish streams appear in the open sea, if the exploitation is organized at the right time and in the right fish stream, it will be very effective. Hopefully, the first fishing trip of the year will catch a lot of seafood, fish prices will increase and be more stable than at present.
Captain of fishing boat PY96549TS Tran Van Nhut added that after this trip, the crew will return home to rest, reunite and celebrate a late Tet with their families for about 10 days before continuing to go to sea. Currently, the weather is favorable, and tuna is appearing quite densely, so fishermen are taking advantage of going to sea to exploit. In the new year, fishermen only pray for favorable weather, a good flow of fish, and stable, higher fish prices. Only then will fishermen be excited and enthusiastic about going to sea and making a living.
Mr. Dao Quang Minh, Head of the Fisheries Sub-Department (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) said: In the past, Phu Yen fishermen have complied well with regulations on seafood exploitation at sea. These are necessary actions to help remove the European Commission's yellow card warning for Vietnamese seafood exploitation. The province encourages fishermen to go offshore, continue to comply with safe seafood exploitation at sea, and not encroach on foreign waters. Fishermen need to invest in equipment to support exploitation with modern technology, gradually innovate exploitation technology and preserve quality products after exploitation to create added value for the products.
Phu Yen currently has more than 3,000 fishing vessels registered on the national fishing vessel data system, of which about 660 fishing vessels specialize in exploiting the open sea. In 2024, the total output of aquatic products exploited in the province will be more than 68,400 tons, of which the output of ocean tuna will be about 3,800 tons. |
