In less than five days, over 61,000 ninth-grade students in Hai Phong City will take the entrance exam for public high schools for the 2026-2027 school year. Despite the unusually hot weather in recent days, teachers and students at junior high schools in the area are diligently reviewing and preparing themselves for this crucial exam.
Upon arriving at Ninh Thanh Secondary School (Vinh Lai commune), we could feel the intense atmosphere of preparation among the teachers and students. At this point, more than 60 ninth-grade students have been thoroughly equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills by their subject teachers, ensuring they are confident for the upcoming entrance exam.

Vu Thanh Dat, a 9th-grade student at Ninh Thanh Secondary School, shared that this year's 10th-grade entrance exam has many new features that have caused him and his family anxiety, even a little pressure. However, with the encouragement of his teachers and family, his worries have been somewhat alleviated.
Having taught 9th-grade students preparing for the 10th-grade entrance exam in Mathematics for 18 years, Ms. Pham Thi Huong (Mathematics teacher at Ninh Thanh Secondary School) always experiences different emotions whenever she is assigned the task of preparing final-year students. This is because each year brings different groups of students and new aspects to the exam. In particular, this year's Mathematics exam is completely different from last year's, so the exam structure has many new features.

According to Ms. Huong, this year's entrance exam in Mathematics will be in multiple-choice format. This format is advantageous for students as they don't have to present their solutions and can answer quickly. However, it is also a disadvantage as students cannot fully explain their solution ideas, and the exam covers a wide range of knowledge.
"Besides basic math knowledge, during the review process, we focus on training students in the skills of presenting a multiple-choice test, identifying the right questions, and selecting questions appropriate to their abilities. In addition, we cultivate good habits in thinking and filling out answer sheets. At this point, students are generally quite proficient in taking multiple-choice tests," Ms. Huong said.

Ms. Pham Thi Oanh, a math teacher at Van Hoi Secondary School (Hong Chau commune), stated: "From grades 6 to 9, students at our school only familiarize themselves with essay-based exams and a portion of multiple-choice questions. Therefore, the inclusion of two multiple-choice subjects in the upcoming entrance exam will somewhat affect the students' preparation. Meanwhile, tutoring opportunities are limited due to the regulations of Circular 20. Furthermore, many families are struggling financially and lack the resources to send their children to extra classes at tutoring centers."
Ms. Oanh stated: "Although we don't have much time in class, we will do our best to impart the basic knowledge of the 2018 General Education Program to our students. In addition, we will give them practice exams based on this year's entrance exam structure. From there, we will identify any difficulties or gaps in their knowledge and find ways to help them overcome them."

Despite the hot weather, the 9th grade students are still diligently reviewing their lessons.
According to the female teacher, every year the entrance exam for 10th grade in public schools presents certain difficulties. The important thing is for students to overcome their own challenges and choose a school that suits their abilities.
Ms. Oanh hopes that, during the final exam preparation period, parents will cooperate more effectively with the school and teachers. They should pay attention to and create conditions that ensure both the health of the students and give them time to study…

The tense moments for 9th-grade students before the 10th-grade entrance exam.
Speaking with a reporter, Mr. Bui Tien Phuong, Deputy Principal of Van Hoi Secondary School (Hong Chau commune), shared that although the school faces many difficulties in preparing students for the exam with the new exam structure, it always receives attention from the Party committee and the local government.
Besides funding from higher levels of government, the People's Committee of the commune also supports teachers directly involved in preparing 9th-grade students for the entrance exam. This is not only a motivation but also demonstrates the local government's concern for education in general and the preparation for the 10th-grade entrance exam in particular.

Ms. Pham Thi Thuyen, Principal of Ninh Thanh Secondary School (Vinh Lai commune), guides students in reviewing the Literature subject.
"Although this year's 10th grade entrance exam has two multiple-choice subjects, students still need to have problem-solving skills before choosing answers; there's no room for guesswork. Most importantly, students must remain calm, maintain a stable mindset, and choose a method that suits their abilities...", said Ms. Pham Thi Thuyen, Principal of Ninh Thanh Secondary School (Vinh Lai commune).
