Simultaneous repair of Noi Bai-Lao Cai expressway

NDO - After more than 10 years of completion and operation of the Noi Bai-Lao Cai expressway, with strong growth in traffic volume, especially heavy trucks, many sections on the route have been damaged and show signs of degradation.

To ensure safe operation of the Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway, Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) pays special attention to timely repair and restoration of degraded and damaged road surfaces and traffic safety systems.

VEC's representative said that the Noi Bai-Lao Cai expressway construction project has a total length of 245 km, passing through 5 provinces and cities: Hanoi , Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho, Yen Bai and Lao Cai with the scale of the Noi Bai-Yen Bai section having 4 lanes and the Yen Bai-Lao Cai section having 2 lanes.

Currently, VEC has completed the selection, signed the contract and requested the contractor to urgently mobilize human resources and vehicles to implement the bid packages to repair damaged road surfaces and traffic safety systems on the Noi Bai-Lao Cai expressway, and to simultaneously construct the entire route by the end of February.

With the strong growth in traffic volume, especially heavy trucks, many sections on the Noi Bai-Lao Cai expressway have been damaged and show signs of deterioration.

Specifically, there are two bid packages for periodic repair of damaged road surfaces and major traffic safety systems, including sections Km0-Km123 and Km123-Km244+155. Nine other bid packages for repair of damaged road surfaces and traffic safety systems include: sections Km93-Km106+206; Km123+66-Km136+470; Km142-Km160+400; Km171-Km190+450; Km191+200-Km217; Km229+100-Km243+100; Km0-Km123+80, Km123+080-Km244+150 and sections Km77+645-Km85+975. At the same time, VEC also implemented procedures to overhaul the Noi Bai- Yen Bai section (Km0-Km123+80).

In order to meet transportation needs, ensure traffic order and safety and promote operational efficiency, VEC has submitted to competent authorities a plan to expand the Yen Bai-Lao Cai section with a total length of 121.33 km (section Km123+90-Km244+155), with a scale of investment of 4 complete lanes. The total investment is more than 7,600 billion VND, of which VEC mobilizes more than 4,600 billion VND and the State budget capital is more than 3,000 billion VND. VEC aims to start construction of the Yen Bai-Lao Cai expressway expansion project in the fourth quarter of this year.

In the immediate future, VEC will accelerate the progress of the Ben Luc-Long Thanh expressway project to ensure completion and operation of the entire route in 2026; complete project adjustment procedures to implement the remaining items of the Da Nang-Quang Ngai expressway in 2025; invest in expanding the Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay, Noi Bai-Lao Cai, Cau Gie-Ninh Binh expressways, etc.

Contractors are urgently mobilizing human resources and vehicles to repair damaged road surfaces and traffic safety systems on the Noi Bai-Lao Cai expressway, with construction to begin on the entire route by the end of February.

In the period of 2026-2030 and after 2030, VEC plans to invest in expanding some sections of the North-South Expressway project from 2 lanes to 4 lanes; invest in new expressways that have not been implemented in the national planning; be ready to participate in expressways serving the goals of security, national defense, socio-economic development, hunger eradication and poverty reduction, and have difficulty attracting other economic sectors to participate; expand the Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay expressway section from Long Thanh to Dau Giay, Noi Bai-Lao Cai, Ben Luc-Long Thanh, Da Nang-Quang Ngai, etc.
