On August 23, Vietnam Railways Corporation announced that it will reward two crossing guards in Long Khanh (Dong Nai) for their quick action to avoid a possible accident at a railway crossing the night before.

Accordingly, at 9:28 p.m. on August 22, at the Km 1649+528 level crossing of the Hanoi -Ho Chi Minh City railway line (in Long Khanh ward, Dong Nai), after the barrier was closed, preparing to welcome train SE4 through. At this time, the barrier staff closed barriers No. 1 and No. 4, rang the bell, the traffic lights flashed, suddenly a young man driving a motorbike with license plate 52-F1 2010 could not control his speed, crashed head-on into barrier No. 1, broke the barrier, causing the driver and vehicle to fall and get stuck on the railway, threatening the safety of the train.

Fortunately, the two gatekeepers on duty at Km 1649+528, Ms. Tran Thi Thuy and Vu Thi Dien, quickly performed the emergency stop signal for train SE4 and together with the people promptly handled the situation, moving barrier No. 1 out of the level crossing, then continued to close the remaining barriers No. 2 and No. 3 to welcome and send train SE4 through the level crossing safely. The incident caused the young man to crash into the barrier and get injured, barrier No. 1 was warped, severely damaged and unusable, the gatekeepers had to use a rope to stretch across the traffic lane.

The incident occurred at the barrier in Long Khanh ward ( Dong Nai ).

Mr. Le Dinh Ha, Director of Saigon Railway Joint Stock Company, commented: “The quick-witted, calm, brave actions and professional handling of the situation by Ms. Tran Thi Thuy and Vu Thi Dien have avoided an unfortunate accident that could have occurred. The incident is currently being handled by the unit in coordination with Long Khanh Ward Police. The brave actions of the two gatekeepers are being proposed by Saigon Railway Joint Stock Company for timely commendation by the Corporation's leaders.”

Immediately after the incident, local units arrived at the scene, coordinated with the Saigon Railway Operation Branch and relevant agencies to resolve and overcome the consequences. The unit is repairing and overcoming the damage to barrier No. 1 to ensure that the work of receiving and seeing off trains at the level crossing takes place normally.
