New expectations from a project that is taking shape.
These days, at the Tan An bridge construction site, many components are entering crucial construction phases. From afar, the bridge piers have risen high above the Kinh Thuy canal, and the approach spans are gradually extending in both directions, creating an increasingly clear shape of a project expected to open up more development opportunities for the area.
The Tan An Bridge and access road project connecting to National Highway 18 has a length of approximately 3.5 km and a total investment of 600 billion VND. The project aims to gradually complete the transportation axis connecting National Highway 5 to National Highway 18, alleviate congestion on the existing transportation network, and create conditions for expanding socio -economic development.
Following the administrative boundary adjustments, this project connects Chu Van An ward and Hop Tien commune in Hai Phong city.
To date, many important components of the project have been completed, such as the substructure and the girders of the approach spans. Construction units are currently carrying out cantilever casting at piers T5 and T6, constructing the T5 tower body and the railings of the approach spans. The bridge's progress has reached approximately 75%, with the goal of completing the bridge by the end of July 2026.
Mr. Duong Quoc Khanh, Deputy General Director of Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company No. 18 (Licogi 18), the unit participating in the project's construction, said that the contractor is focusing maximum manpower and equipment and organizing multiple construction teams to closely adhere to the set schedule.
"This is a project of crucial connectivity, so the construction units are focusing intensely on each item. We are organizing construction simultaneously on multiple fronts, striving to ensure the bridge completion schedule is met," Mr. Khanh informed.
Behind the gradually extending bridges lies the expectation of forming a new transportation axis, contributing to expanding the development space of the region. In reality, in many localities, transportation infrastructure often precedes development, creating favorable conditions for attracting investment and promoting economic activities.
For many years, travel and goods transportation along the corridor connecting National Highway 5 and National Highway 18 have relied primarily on the existing transportation network.
However, along with the increasingly rapid pace of industrial development, the ever-increasing demand for freight transport has put significant pressure on several key routes.
This reality necessitates a gradual expansion of new connection routes, enhancing the interoperability and operational capacity of the regional transportation network.
Links in the regional linkage picture

The Tan An Bridge is identified as part of the transportation axis connecting from National Highway 5 via the Han Bridge, the Nam Sach and Hop Tien areas to National Highway 18, gradually completing the inter-regional transportation corridor according to the plan.
The goal is not only to add another traffic route but also to increase connectivity between areas, alleviate congestion on some existing traffic routes, and create room for long-term development.
In recent years, Hai Phong and the surrounding areas have continuously invested in numerous infrastructure projects to expand development space and strengthen regional connectivity.
From bridges spanning the Cam and Van Uc rivers to infrastructure connecting Hai Phong with neighboring localities, the transportation network is gradually being improved in a more synchronized and interconnected manner.
In addition to meeting immediate transportation needs, infrastructure projects are also expected to create further impetus for attracting investment and developing industry and services in the long term.
"With the completion of the Tan An bridge, the connection axis from National Highway 18 through Nam Sach to National Highway 5 will be smoother, creating more convenient traffic routes for goods transport, especially container trucks from many industrial zones to the seaport system and logistics infrastructure of Hai Phong. In addition, the bridge contributes to increasing regional connectivity and opening up new development opportunities," said Mr. Vu Xuan Do, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Hop Tien commune.
This is especially significant given Hai Phong's rapid development of industrial zones, seaports, and logistics, which requires well-equipped connecting routes to reduce transportation time and costs.
The significance of the Tan An Bridge could be even greater in the future if the Noi Bai - Bac Ninh - Chi Linh expressway is implemented. At that time, traffic flow connecting the northern region to Hai Phong is projected to increase, while the Tan An Bridge will become a crucial link in the transportation corridor connecting to the city's port and logistics system, expanding regional connectivity, promoting trade, attracting investment, and creating momentum for economic development in the area.
