Developing a modern, integrated trade and service sector is an inevitable trend and a necessary condition to meet the development needs of the locality in the context of international integration, promoting digital transformation, and applying science and technology

Diverse retail channels, modern services

Besides 186 traditional markets and tens of thousands of businesses providing essential goods to the people, Dong Nai province currently has 9 shopping malls and 19 supermarkets, along with convenience store chains and mini-supermarkets expanding throughout the province, including remote areas. Furthermore, the province has seen strong growth in convenience store chains belonging to systems such as Bach Hoa Xanh, WinMart, Co.op Food, GS25, FamilyMart, etc., as well as mini-supermarkets and self-service stores.

According to Le Duc Thuan, Director of Lotte Mart Dong Nai (Long Binh Ward, Dong Nai Province): Lotte Mart aims to become a pioneering retailer in integrating a multi-channel retail model. Multi-channel selling is considered the future of the Vietnamese retail industry in general and in Dong Nai in particular. This is an effective method to enhance the most convenient shopping experience for consumers in the digital age.

Nguyen Duong The Kiet, store manager of Kohnan Bien Hoa household goods store at Vincom Bien Hoa Shopping Center (Tam Hiep Ward, Dong Nai Province), shared: "Currently, modern consumer demand is changing in taste. Kohnan Bien Hoa supplies domestic products from Japan and products with Japanese brands, as well as products of Vietnamese origin in the household goods, furniture, kitchenware, pet products, and green consumer goods sectors… The store focuses on diversifying product lines to meet modern consumer trends, bringing many conveniences to urban consumers, especially the young consumer segment and young families."

Supermarkets and convenience store chains are extended retail models of large retailers with diverse distribution and retail systems. Therefore, when shopping at supermarkets and convenience stores, in addition to the convenience of specific products and services, customers enjoy consistent promotions across the entire distribution and retail system of the business or brand.

Mr. Tuan Dat (residing in Binh Phuoc ward, Dong Nai province) said: “Currently, the development of supermarkets and convenience stores in the area has contributed to diversifying modern shopping and consumption channels for people. Goods and services have improved in quality, design, and variety. The network of convenience stores opens up more space for young customers to shop and dine, as well as enriching the types of commercial services in urban areas.”

Simultaneously, e-commerce is also developing rapidly in Dong Nai province. The e-commerce market in Dong Nai is expanding. In recent times, the province has proactively implemented many action programs and specific plans to promote the development of the digital economy , including e-commerce.

Promoting digital payments

To keep pace with the technological advancement of the trade and service industry, digital payments also play a crucial role in spreading the benefits of modern payment methods to the community, thereby improving people's quality of life...

Lotte Mart Dong Nai Director Le Duc Thuan further shared: “We focus on developing target customer groups based on shopping behavior, living area, and frequency of interaction. Simultaneously, we continue to develop multi-platform sales: from website, mobile application, to GrabMart, ShopeeFood Mart platforms, and livestreaming… in order to expand touchpoints and meet the increasingly high demands of consumers.”

Over the past period, the commercial banking system in the province has performed well in payment processing, increasing cashless payments. At the same time, it has promptly and adequately met the demand for cash and the structure of various currency types to serve production and goods circulation.

According to the State Bank of Vietnam's Regional Branch 2 (the unit managing banking, monetary, and foreign exchange activities in Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province), regarding the development of the banking service network, Dong Nai province currently has 132 units, including 88 bank branches. Credit institutions in the province focus on developing modern payment services and promoting digital transformation in banking operations. This provides many safe, convenient, and practical digital banking services for people and businesses. In particular, the banking sector has been actively implementing effective solutions under Government Decree 06/CP, contributing to the promotion of cashless payments in the province.

Deputy Director of the State Bank of Vietnam, Region 2 Branch, Nguyen Duc Lenh, emphasized: Connecting, exploiting, and utilizing national population data to serve the development of account services (including opening payment accounts; verifying payments; cross-checking customer information; and cleaning accounts) brings many significant benefits to the expansion and development of cashless payments in the economy. At the same time, it promotes economic growth activities linked to the development requirements of the digital economy, such as e-commerce; technology-driven transportation; tourism services; and consumer credit activities… developing in a modern direction, applying technology, and creating convenient products to serve socio-economic development and the lives of people in the province.

With diverse payment methods (Internet Banking, Mobile Banking, QR code, e-wallets, credit/debit cards, etc.), most people can quickly and conveniently pay for essential services and daily necessities such as electricity, water, telephone bills, bus/train/plane tickets, tuition fees, shopping at supermarkets/convenience stores, online purchases, etc.
