The work is an epic ballad about the Trường Sơn oil pipeline soldiers – a silent, courageous force that contributed to the miracles of the resistance war against the US to save the country.
Drawing on his practical experience as an engineer directly involved in the design and construction of the legendary pipeline, Major General Ho Sy Hau vividly recreated the journey of laying the first sections of pipe through the "triangle of fire" of Vinh - Nam Dan - Linh Cam from 1968 until the day of complete victory on April 30, 1975.
The oil pipeline was likened to a "river carrying fire," capable of bursting into flames at the slightest bomb fragment, yet it bravely traversed high mountains, deep forests, and through bombing raids to supply fuel to the battlefields of Southern Vietnam. Commander Dong Si Nguyen once affirmed: "If the Truong Son Road is a legend, then the oil pipeline is a legend within that legend."

The novel depicts silent battles and heroic sacrifices, with the character of Dinh standing out – modeled after Sergeant Nguyen Luong Dinh, who was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces.
This work won the B Prize – a writing and promotion award about the armed forces and revolutionary war, presented by the Ministry of National Defense for the period 2009-2014. First published in 2012, "The River Carrying Fire" received a warm reception from readers, especially veterans of the Truong Son Mountains. This reprint aims to meet the aspirations of a large number of readers, especially the younger generation, contributing to spreading the message of gratitude and educating about patriotic traditions.
At the book launch, Lieutenant General Phung Khac Dang emotionally shared: "Ho Sy Hau wrote from the heart. He not only wrote about the fuel and oil troops but also depicted a bright part of the tradition of Uncle Ho's soldiers."

Poet Huu Thinh highly praised the work as an important contribution to revolutionary literature, honoring the intellect and scientific and technical skills in army building and filling the literary gap about pipeline soldiers. According to him, "The River Carrying Fire" is not only a historical novel but also has profound educational value, fostering patriotism in today's generation.
