According to Hai Phong Hydrometeorological Station, it is forecasted that at around 7:00 p.m. tomorrow, the tropical depression will strengthen into storm number 5.

At 7:00 p.m. on August 22, the center of the tropical depression was at about 16.8 degrees north latitude; 120.6 degrees east longitude, on the mainland of the island west of Luzon Island (Philippines).

The strongest wind in the area near the center of the tropical depression is level 6-7 (39-61km/h), gusting to level 9; moving in the West Northwest direction at a speed of 15-20km/h.

Forecast, at 7:00 p.m. on August 23, the tropical depression will be at about 17.6 degrees north latitude, 114.7 degrees east longitude; in the North East Sea area; away from the special zone.
Hoang Sa 280km to the East Northeast. Low pressure moves in the West Northwest direction, speed 20 - 25km/h and strengthens into a storm.

In the next 48 to 72 hours, the storm will move mainly in a westerly direction, about 15km per hour, and is likely to strengthen.

In the North East Sea, there are strong winds of level 6 - 7, then increasing to level 8, near the storm center level 9 - 10, gusting to level 12, waves 3.0 - 5.0m high, near the storm center 4.0 - 6.0m, very rough seas.

Ships operating in the above mentioned dangerous areas are likely to be affected by storms, whirlwinds, strong winds and large waves.

At 1:00 p.m. on August 22, the water level at Hon Dau station was 307cm and was gradually rising.

Forecast for the next 24 hours: The total water level is high, with the possibility of flooding in low-lying coastal areas, low-lying areas along the Bach Dang River, Lach Tray River, Cam River, Moi River and Thai Binh River. The maximum flooding depth in low-lying coastal areas and river mouths is from 0.3 - 0.5m.

From the next 24 to 48 hours, Hai Phong sea area will continue to be affected by high tides. On the afternoon of August 23, the highest water level in Hai Phong coastal area fluctuated at 350-360cm.

People need to be on guard against flooding in low-lying areas along the river, which could affect people's rice and crops; affect flooded areas for aquaculture, traffic activities and some activities in coastal tourist areas.
