Kinhtedothi - On November 22nd, the Hanoi Department of Tourism, in coordination with the People's Committee of Chuong My district, organized a training conference on developing community -based agricultural and rural tourism models in the context of building new rural areas in Chuong My district.

Regarding the tourism development potential in the district, Ms. Duong Thi Thanh, Deputy Head of the Culture and Information Department of Chuong My District, said that located in the southwest of Hanoi, Chuong My District is known for many famous historical sites and scenic spots such as Tram Pagoda, Tram Gian Pagoda, Vo Vi Pagoda, etc.

At the same time, Chuong My district leads Hanoi in the number of craft villages with 175 traditional and craft-producing villages. In addition, Chuong My district has many lakes such as Dong Suong and Van Son, covering an area of approximately 167 hectares, suitable for outdoor activities and recreational fishing. Furthermore, there is the Sky Lake Resort & Golf Club, a resort complex and 36-hole golf course catering to high-spending tourists.

Based on leveraging the existing potential of the locality and its location in a semi-mountainous region, Chuong My district is favorable for developing all three types of tourism: cultural and historical tourism; ecological and resort tourism; and craft village tourism. To exploit its strengths and potential for tourism development, Chuong My district is focusing on building, developing, and exploiting a number of tourist destinations, routes, and tours.

"Regarding historical and cultural tourist destinations, the district has developed a master plan for the Tram Pagoda tourist area, covering 50 hectares, to build a model of cultural tourism combined with ecotourism, and to renovate and upgrade Tram Pagoda and Tram Gian Pagoda to attract visitors from all over," Ms. Thanh shared.

Despite its considerable potential, Chuong My's tourism development has not been commensurate. According to statistics from the Chuong My District Department of Culture and Information, although the number of tourists visiting the district has increased in recent years, the figures remain modest. This is due to inadequate infrastructure and facilities, insufficient investment in and exploitation of tourism resources, and a lack of proper attention to tourism promotion and advertising. Furthermore, tourism products are monotonous and fail to satisfy and attract tourists.

To address these shortcomings, Nguyen Duc Thang, Head of the Tourism Department (Dong A University of Technology), proposed that Chuong My district should develop a community tourism development plan linked to traditional craft village products, focusing on green and sustainable growth.

Promoting the introduction of traditional craft products, developing unique experiential products, and aiming for accommodation services will encourage tourists to extend their stay. In addition, management agencies and local people should strengthen communication and promotion of cultural tourism, agriculture, and OCOP products to tourists.

"After tourists experience and visit historical sites and learn about the culture, they will want to buy agricultural products that suit their needs. At that point, the community is both the subject and the beneficiary of tourism," Mr. Thang said.

The Hanoi Department of Tourism's support for the development of community-based and eco-tourism in suburban districts not only contributes to the growth of the tourism industry but also diversifies rural occupations.

At the same time, it creates more local jobs, increases people's income, helps preserve and promote traditional cultural values, and improves the material and spiritual lives of the local community.
