Drowning accidents in the summer are not a new story but are always “hot”. This year, although it has not officially entered the summer, drowning accidents have occurred continuously. According to the report of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, since the beginning of the year, there have been many drowning accidents in the province, killing many people, including 6 children.
Need the participation of the whole society
Recognizing the risks of drowning accidents for children, all levels and sectors in the province promptly took action to implement preventive measures.
On March 21, 2023, the Department of Education and Training issued an official dispatch directing the Departments of Education and Training and educational units in the area to implement work to prevent and combat injuries and drowning for children and students in 2023.
Children playing in ponds, lakes, rivers, and streams without adult supervision are at high risk of drowning.
Accordingly, schools will continue to strengthen communication to enhance the responsibility of staff, teachers, parents and students on many information channels; schools, mass organizations and families will coordinate more closely in managing students and children when they are at home on holidays and during the summer vacation in 2023.
The Department of Education and Training also requires schools to review the conditions of facilities serving swimming lessons; equipment serving entertainment activities; training, fostering swimming skills, and preventing drowning for staff and teachers...
These solutions aim to raise awareness, form habits and skills to proactively prevent accidents, injuries, and drowning of children and students for teachers, parents and each student themselves.

Faced with the recent situation of children dying from drowning, the Provincial Youth Union has also promptly implemented a plan to prevent drowning in 2023. In addition to propaganda work, the Provincial Youth Union is actively developing plans and directing grassroots youth unions and teams to implement models such as: "90 seconds of safety", "Automatic drowning warning loudspeaker", "Life buoy point", "Drowning ladder", "3K - 3T" warning stickers...
At the same time, organize inspections, review, install warning signs, support the construction of barriers in areas at risk of drowning; go to each household to propagate, remind to strictly manage children and build barriers in ponds, lakes, wells...

Mr. Dang Quoc Vu - Head of the Provincial Youth Union's Propaganda Department said: "The Youth Union - Pioneers at all levels in the province will advise and coordinate with all levels and sectors to promote the socialization of resources to build standard swimming pools, organize free swimming classes for children. It is expected that in April 2023, 100% of district-level units will organize the launch of "Teaching swimming, learning swimming to prevent drowning for children"; organize at least 1 swimming teaching, learning swimming activity, equipping children with drowning prevention skills at the district level in May 2023, in which priority will be given to organizing free classes for children in difficult circumstances".
Child drowning is a heartbreaking problem, and departments are constantly concerned and implementing preventive measures. However, to limit this situation, the role of each family in supervising and managing their children and the children's awareness are the decisive factors. Hopefully, with the cooperation of the whole society, children will have a safe and rewarding summer.
