| Glordon and Elio in the movie Elio - The Boy from Earth. |
The film was produced by Pixar and distributed by Disney, with three directors involved: Madeline Sharafian, Domee Shi, and Adriana Molina.
The little boy got tired of Earth and flew into space.
Elio Solis (voiced by Yonas Kibread) is an orphan cared for by his aunt, Olga Solis (Zoe Saldana), in place of his deceased parents. Elio doesn't appreciate his aunt's love and sacrifice. He feels lonely and rebellious, skipping school and picking fights with his friends.
While wandering into the Voyager satellite exhibition, Elio dreamt of flying into space: "Aliens, come and take me!" His wish came true, and Elio was able to fly all the way to the Intergalactic spaceport – a kind of alien United Nations.
Elio, with his fascination with the wondrous universe, befriends intelligent creatures across the galaxy. A challenge arises when he negotiates with Grigon (Brad Garrett), the warlike leader of the Hylurgian tribe who aspires to dominate the intergalactic realm. There, Elio coincidentally meets Grigon's son, Glordon (Remy Edgerly), a bizarre-looking creature with sharp teeth and a plump body. Both feeling lonely, they quickly become close friends through shared experiences.
Searching for the meaning of life
Elio shares many similarities with Disney's most recent film, Lilo & Stitch, which is considered a synthesis of the strengths of both animation giants, such as family bonds, beautiful friendships, coping with loneliness, and finding a meaningful purpose in life.
The film balances family and friendship. After all, Elio and Aunt Olga understand each other better and work together to save their lovable alien friend Glordon. Elio's decision to "return to Earth" celebrates the value of family bonds.
The friendship between Elio and Glordon helped both of them mature and live more meaningful lives than they had previously experienced in their lonely despair. They both became better versions of themselves, living new and more meaningful lives. Not only did Elio build a genuine friendship with his new friend Glordon, but he also helped Glordon and his father reconcile.
Variety magazine commented: "The film explains why people often think about the existence of extraterrestrial beings. Because sometimes lost souls like Elio need a place to find refuge on their journey to discover their true selves."
| Elio heals from loneliness, loss, resentment (due to the lack of parental care), and overcomes other cosmic-scale troubles by connecting with strangers. The boy from Earth makes his biggest dream come true by standing up, correcting his flaws and mistakes. This message resonates strongly with parents taking their children to the cinema for summer entertainment. |
