Bui Anh Thu has had to temporarily put her studies on hold to receive treatment for stage 3 lung cancer. She is currently undergoing her 5th out of 14 rounds of chemotherapy according to the treatment plan. Previously, Thu's parents worked as garment factory workers earning about 10 million VND per month, but now her mother has had to quit her job to take care of her in Ho Chi Minh City, and her father works odd jobs to make ends meet.
