EVNSPC signed to implement 4 projects to supply electricity to islands of Kien Giang province

On the afternoon of December 10, in Phu Quoc city, the People's Committee of Kien Giang province and the Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC) signed a plan to implement four key electricity projects in Kien Giang province.

Four key projects in the electricity sector include: Phu Quoc - North Phu Quoc 110kV line; Phu Quoc - South Phu Quoc 110kV line; Project to supply national grid power to two island communes of An Son and Nam Du (Kien Hai district); Phu Quoc 220kV transformer station.

The 110kV Phu Quoc - North Phu Quoc transmission line and the 110kV Phu Quoc - South Phu Quoc transmission line are expected to be completed before April 30, 2025; the national grid power supply project for the two island communes of An Son and Nam Du and the 220kV Phu Quoc transformer station will start construction before August 30, 2025.

These projects contribute to completing the power grid infrastructure in Kien Giang province, ensuring a stable and reliable power source to serve the needs of socio-economic development; improving the quality of life of people on the islands, especially meeting the requirements of tourism development in Phu Quoc city, An Son and Nam Du island communes of Kien Giang province.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Kien Giang Provincial Party Secretary Do Thanh Binh requested the Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee and the Southern Power Corporation to closely coordinate to effectively implement the projects and tasks, and put the projects into operation on time and on schedule.

EVNSPC Chairman of the Board of Members Le Van Trang said that these four projects are key projects of the Southern Power Corporation in 2025 and the unit has arranged ready capital for implementation. EVNSPC will actively coordinate with departments, branches and sectors of Kien Giang province and Phu Quoc city to complete the projects on schedule, contributing to the socio-economic and tourism development of the locality.

According to Vice Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee Giang Thanh Khoa, up to now, 100% of communes/wards/towns in the province have electricity; 99.7% of rural households have electricity; electricity consumption in Kien Giang province has reached about 3 billion kWh.

There are currently 03 island communes without national grid electricity: An Son, Nam Du and Tho Chu (currently using local sources of Diesel and renewable energy). Kien Giang province identifies investing in the power grid for island communes as an important political task, ensuring energy needs for the province's socio-economic development.

The 220kV Kien Binh - Phu Quoc transmission line project will be put into operation in October 2022.

In the coming time, Kien Giang province will actively coordinate with the electricity sector in investing in developing the power grid on the islands; promptly remove difficulties and obstacles, speed up the implementation of projects according to schedule.

EVNSPC General Director Nguyen Phuoc Duc said that from 2014 to present, EVNSPC has invested in building many power grid projects in Kien Giang province with a total investment of more than VND 7,600 billion; of which investment for the 220kV - 110kV grid is over VND 5,000 billion, and the medium and low voltage grid is VND 2,569 billion.

In particular, in the period of 2015-2023, many important power projects and works have been invested and put into operation by EVNSPC such as: 110kV Ha Tien - Phu Quoc submarine cable line; 220kV double-circuit 220kV Kien Binh - Phu Quoc sea-crossing line; 110kV Ha Tien - Tinh Bien line; 110kV Vinh Thuan - An Xuyen line and projects to bring national grid power to island communes of Kien Giang province such as: Hon Tre, Lai Son, Hon Nghe, Son Hai, Tien Hai, ... contributing to ensuring stable and continuous power supply for socio-economic development of Kien Giang province in general and Phu Quoc city in particular in accordance with the tasks assigned by the Party and State to the Electricity sector.
