Steadfast in one term, confident in breakthrough

Assessing the outstanding results of the past term, Party Central Committee member and Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Tien Hai said: During the past term, despite being greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and the general difficulties of the world economy and politics , with the close direction of the Provincial Party Committee; the flexible and effective management of the government; the strong participation and high determination of the entire political system; the support and consensus of the people and the business community, An Giang has overcome difficulties and challenges, achieved and exceeded most of the targets set by the congress resolution.

First of all, the work of building and rectifying the Party and the political system has been carried out synchronously and in depth. The Provincial Party Committee has paid attention to leading the improvement of the quality of grassroots Party organizations, cadres and Party members; completing the task of reorganizing the apparatus after the merger, ensuring the Party's consistent leadership in the new conditions. This is a very important highlight, creating determination for all results of the term.

Regarding socio -economic development, the province has persistently shifted its structure in a positive direction, recovering after the pandemic. Trade, services and tourism have grown quite well; export turnover has increased by an average of over 9%/year. Tourism has recovered quickly, diversifying its types. Over the past 5 years, the province has welcomed more than 80 million visitors, of which international visitors accounted for more than 3.4 million, with total revenue of more than 142 billion VND... These figures show the province's capacity to adapt and restructure the service industry in the context of supply chain disruptions and fluctuations in global demand.

Marine economy and border trade economy have become key driving forces, playing a very important role, connecting green economic development with the process of deep international integration. Key areas such as ecological aquaculture, sustainable exploitation, wind power, solar power, border trade and cross-border logistics services open up new development space, increasing regional connectivity.

Significant progress has been made in the socio-cultural fields, with a focus on human welfare and security. Sustainable multidimensional poverty reduction has achieved remarkable results: The poverty rate has decreased to 0.91%, thereby improving the quality of life and expanding access to basic services for the people.

National defense, security, and foreign affairs continue to be maintained and expanded, creating a stable environment for development. In the context of fluctuations, the province still controls social order and safety well; promotes cooperation and regional linkages, and raises its position on the regional tourism and trade map; this shows that internal resilience and adaptive capacity have been reinforced.

It can be said that the past term of An Giang province was a period of organizational consolidation - growth recovery - creating momentum for breakthroughs: Party organizations and political systems were streamlined and operated smoothly; socio-economics recovered sustainably, services and tourism increased; social security, healthcare, and poverty reduction achieved more substantial results; national defense and security were ensured; territorial sovereignty, sea, islands, and borders were firmly protected... Those achievements were both the result of a courageous and determined term and the foundation for moving towards higher goals in the new period.

- Reporter: From the process of leading and directing the implementation of the resolution of the last term, what lessons has the Provincial Party Committee learned, comrade?

- Comrade Nguyen Tien Hai: We have discussed and reached an agreement, and can draw 5 major lessons. First, it is necessary to always uphold the principles, discipline, and order of the Party, and promote the role and responsibility of setting an example for the leader. This is a decisive factor in strengthening trust and creating unity in the entire political system.

Second, the desire for development needs to be strongly aroused. Practice shows that the spirit of dynamism, creativity, daring to think, daring to do, daring to take responsibility has helped many localities and units overcome difficulties and turn challenges into opportunities.

Third, the issue of solidarity is the key factor. The consensus and unity between the Party Committee, the government, the Front, organizations and the People is the strength that helps the Provincial Party Committee to exceed many of the resolution targets.

Fourth, all policies and strategies must originate from the legitimate interests and needs of the people. Consider the people as the center and subject of development, constantly improving the material and spiritual life of the people.

Fifth, we must be consistent in the goal of sustainable development, closely combining economic growth with environmental protection, ensuring national defense, security and expanding foreign relations. This is the important foundation, of decisive significance for the province to develop rapidly and sustainably in the coming time.

- Reporter: After the merger, An Giang province has the largest area and the largest population in the Mekong Delta, with many potentials and advantages. So what is An Giang's orientation to develop strongly in the next term, comrade?

- Comrade Nguyen Tien Hai: In the 2025 - 2030 term, the Provincial Party Committee identifies socio-economic development as the center; Party building as the key; taking science, technology, innovation and digital transformation as strategic breakthroughs; cultural development as the spiritual foundation of society; strengthening national defense, security and foreign affairs as essential and regular. At the same time, building a clean and strong political system, streamlining the organizational apparatus, operating effectively, efficiently and effectively; orienting the province's development towards green, digital and deep integration; taking digital transformation, circular economy, marine economy, border trade economy and tourism development as the driving force for growth model innovation.

On that basis, the general goal by 2030 is clearly defined: An Giang will become a fairly developed province of the country; a strong maritime economic center of the country; Phu Quoc will reach international stature; Rach Gia will become a political - administrative, trade - general and specialized service center; the quadrilateral area of Long Xuyen - Chau Doc - Rach Gia - Ha Tien will become a driving force for industrial development, logistics, cultural - ecological tourism, and at the same time a center for research, development of varieties and production of agriculture, aquaculture... in the direction of increasing value, enhancing regional and international competitiveness.

These orientations show the clear aspiration of An Giang not only to become a well-off province but also to affirm its role as a "new growth pole" of the Mekong Delta, contributing with the whole country to achieve the goal of becoming a developed, high-income country by 2045.

To realize that aspiration, it requires the entire political system, businesses and people to join hands, unite their hearts, unify their will, and promote their combined strength, with the motto "One An Giang - One vision - One will - One belief in victory". With such high political determination and development aspirations, An Giang will certainly reap even greater achievements in the new journey, making an important contribution to the overall development of the country.
