According to GSMArena , Fossil announced the Gen 6 smartwatch line running WearOS in August 2021. The company then revealed some Wellness Edition models instead of the Gen 7, which made users wait for a long time. Now, this wait has become in vain as Fossil has decided to leave the smartwatch market.
Gen 6 is the last smartwatch model offered by Fossil to consumers.
"As the smartwatch landscape has evolved significantly over the past several years, we have made the strategic decision to exit the smartwatch business," Fossil spokesperson Amanda Castelli said in a statement. "Fossil Group is redirecting resources to support the company's core strengths and core business segments that continue to provide strong growth opportunities for us: designing and distributing exciting traditional watches, jewelry, and leather goods under our own brands and under license."
Last month, several reports claimed that Fossil would no longer release Wear OS smartwatches, and that the company was also cutting prices on some of its smartwatches, which could be to allow the company to clear inventory in preparation for a full exit from the smartwatch market.
Fossil is exiting the smartwatch business, but the brand confirmed that it will continue to update the company's existing Wear OS smartwatches "for the next few years."
