The FSB foiled a plot to assassinate a high-ranking Russian military officer.
The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) claims to have thwarted a Ukrainian plot to assassinate a high-ranking Russian military officer using poisoned beer.
Báo Khoa học và Đời sống•21/11/2025RT reported on November 20th that, according to the FSB, this plot was planned by the Ukrainian military intelligence agency (HUR) and allegedly targeted through an online female character named Polina. FSB investigators believe that photos and videos related to this "virtual" character were created by AI and circulated for months to gain the victim's trust.

Polina allegedly arranged for a gift of British beer to be sent to a high-ranking Russian military officer through an intermediary. The FSB said this intermediary was under investigation for smuggling explosives and other contraband from Ukrainian-controlled territory into Russia using drones. He was arrested shortly after the delivery.
Tests on the beer revealed the presence of two poisons, including what the FSB described as a variant of the British-made VX nerve agent. The statement added that if ingested, the victim would suffer a painful death within 20 minutes.
Last week, the FSB said it had also thwarted an assassination attempt on a high-ranking Russian official while he was visiting a cemetery in Moscow. According to the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper , Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu was the target of the assassination.
