- On the morning of May 16th, the Liaison Committee of the Veterans Association of the 198th Special Forces Regiment held a meeting to commemorate the 52nd anniversary of the Regiment's traditional day and to pay tribute to the 45th anniversary of the Battle of Hill 400 in Lang Son (May 16, 1981 - May 16, 2026).
Attending the meeting were Lieutenant General Duong Cong Suu, former Commander of the 198th Special Forces Regiment and former Deputy Commander of Military Region 1; Colonel Hoang Ngoc Thanh, Deputy Political Commissar of the Special Forces Command; and more than 200 special forces veterans and relatives of fallen soldiers from 12 provinces and cities nationwide.

At the meeting, the veterans reminisced about the glorious fighting traditions of Regiment 198 in the resistance wars, national construction, and defense. Regiment 198, the predecessor of today's 198th Special Forces Brigade, was established on August 19, 1974, in Chu Nghe commune (now Chu Pah district), and was an elite special forces unit under the Western Highlands Front.

During the war of resistance against the US, the Regiment participated in the Central Highlands Campaign and the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, engaging in over 200 battles, eliminating more than 2,000 enemy soldiers, capturing over 1,610, and destroying and seizing hundreds of thousands of tons of enemy weapons and equipment.
During the period of national construction and defense, the unit continued to carry out international duties in Cambodia, participating in more than 10 battles, eliminating hundreds of enemy soldiers, and destroying many enemy weapons and war vehicles.

Over the years, the Liaison Committee of the 198th Special Forces Regiment has consistently maintained close ties, solidarity, and mutual support among its members; at the same time, it has focused on carrying out the work of showing gratitude and coordinating with various levels, sectors, and local authorities to support the families of martyrs in searching for and collecting the remains of fallen soldiers.
Currently, the Liaison Committee manages a list of over 3,000 martyrs, coordinates the repatriation of over 100 martyrs to their hometowns for burial, and contributes funds to the construction of memorials for fallen soldiers in many localities across the country.
In peacetime, upholding the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers, the veterans of the 198th Special Forces Regiment continue to actively participate in economic development, building cultural life, and contributing to the development of their homeland and localities.

The meeting was held on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the Battle of Hill 400, and in anticipation of the 136th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2026), contributing to the education of patriotic traditions and revolutionary spirit for today's young generation.

On this occasion, the Liaison Committee of the Veterans Association of the 198th Special Forces Regiment presented gifts of gratitude to the families of martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the fight to protect the Fatherland; awarded honorary commemorative medals to the delegates attending the event; and presented the Lang Son Front Commemorative Medal for the period 1979-1984 to veterans who directly fought, served in combat, and worked in the Lang Son border area.
