Francesca Albo, based in Toronto, Canada, is the CEO and co-founder of Puppysphere, a rapidly growing startup offering a variety of puppy therapy experiences, including playtime in the office and yoga with dogs.

Mental health care through puppies.

Her journey from a biotechnology job to becoming an entrepreneur has garnered significant online attention. A video of her pushing a stroller carrying her puppy into the office has attracted over 5.5 million views.

"When I worked for a biotechnology company at the University of Toronto, I had to sit at my desk for eight hours a day. It was miserable for me," shared Albo, who worked in that position for four years.

"So I spent my early mornings and evenings building a startup company, allowing me to quit my job and become my own boss."

As a dog lover and owner of a canine companion, Albo always wanted to prioritize quality time with her canine friend – a "friend" she says helps "spread love and happiness." However, due to the pressures of her office job, she found it difficult to dedicate as much time to her pet as she wished.

Albo quickly realized that many other dog lovers felt the same way, and eventually decided to collaborate with Lea Burbidge Izquierdo to bring the idea of Puppysphere to life.

The benefits of working closely with dogs are numerous, ranging from stress reduction to increased motivation. This businesswoman says she founded Puppysphere to bring the positive effects of puppy therapy to more people, especially those feeling stuck in the office.

We aim to expand our services globally.

Albo's startup, which she initially built by sending hundreds of emails inviting business partnerships to corporate clients, has now grown into a multinational brand with over 200 employees and offices in the United States and Canada.

Puppysphere's offerings range from pilates classes with dogs to "dog yoga and wine"—where customers participate in a yoga class in a peaceful setting with their canines, followed by unlimited partying.

The company has attracted a diverse clientele, particularly senior management professionals from Generation X and Millennials, who enthusiastically integrate Albo's dog-themed events into their employee wellness programs.

Partly thanks to their enthusiasm, Puppysphere's impact on workplace culture has been significant. "Dog therapy has been shown to increase oxytocin, serotonin, and dopamine levels—a recipe for happiness," Albo shared.

The businesswoman says that Puppysphere currently receives over 100 requests per week for private events, often from business leaders seeking creative ways to improve employee morale and mental well-being.

The concept of animal therapy in the workplace isn't new, but Albo has turned this idea into a solid business model, combining healthcare elements with a fresh perspective that appeals to a social media-savvy audience.

This 27-year-old woman leverages social media for promotion and has amassed a large following on TikTok and Instagram, not to mention viewers' love for videos featuring Albo's "colleagues": her dogs.

"I was truly overwhelmed and touched by the warm response to the video," Albo said, referring to her August 12 post under the @francescamarfisia username, which garnered over 5 million views.

"Visible videos like this have truly changed my life, allowing me not only to quit my job but also to build a huge start-up that is having a positive impact on so many people."

The company remains committed to bringing canine therapy closer to everyone, while ensuring ethical practices benefit both the humans and the animals involved.

Albo says that while the social media success is remarkable, her company's mission goes far beyond just online fame. "More and more people need the love of puppies – whether through a live video, a work event, or attending a yoga class with a dog," she says. "It's a mental health boost that I recommend everyone try."

Puppysphere's next phase is global expansion, with Albo and her team focusing on extending their services. They have already served thousands of customers across North America and plan for rapid growth in the near future.

"It's wonderful to come home every day with a puppy. But not everyone has the opportunity because of limitations like living conditions and work pressures," she said. "Our goal is to continue expanding and bring Puppysphere to every major city around the world."
