At the Investor Day 2025 event held in New York (USA), Chairman and CEO of Hyundai Motor Group - Mr. Jose Munoz confirmed that the luxury brand Genesis is considering developing an off-road SUV, inspired by the X Gran Equator concept launched earlier this year. The new Genesis off-road SUV will sit at the top of Genesis' range, offering not only luxury but also a distinct and memorable experience, extending the brand's identity beyond the realm of pure urban SUVs.
Genesis has revealed some details of the original concept: 24-inch beadlock wheels, high ground clearance, roof rails and especially 4 separate sunroofs for each row of seats instead of the traditional panoramic windows. These are bold off-road SUV highlights, promising to compete directly with the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. As expected, Genesis' new off-road SUV will not be purely electric, but will likely use the existing 3.5L V6 engine or a hybrid variant. With powerful engine changes and upgrades, the Korean luxury car brand is considered suitable for the orientation of providing strong and flexible operation in many different terrain conditions.
The interior of the Genesis X Gran Equator is a blend of classic and modern. Instead of a large touch screen, the cabin uses a small digital clock cluster inspired by classic cameras, combined with physical buttons. The navy blue and tan color scheme creates a cozy feel, while luxury details like the four-panel sunroof, crystal gearshift knob and swivel front seats emphasize the premium nature of the Genesis... In addition, the car also has an off-road mode on the steering wheel, increasing the practicality of the off-road experience. Although the commercial production schedule has not been announced, Genesis' introduction of the off-road SUV at the strategic event shows that the company is seriously preparing to enter the luxury off-road SUV segment, where the Mercedes-Benz G-Class has had almost no worthy competitors.
In addition to this SUV, Genesis also revealed other future projects, including the rumored G90 coupe based on the X Gran Coupe concept, and a high-performance electric sedan with more than 1,000 horsepower to compete directly with the Porsche Taycan. The appearance of the new off-road SUV shows that Genesis is not only focusing on sedans and urban SUVs, but also wants to expand into high-end segments with rich personality. If realized, this will be a potential competitor, challenging the Mercedes-Benz G-Class's long-standing monopoly in the luxury off-road SUV market.
