Hot seat: Is it Steve Cooper's turn?

With only seven rounds remaining in the 2022-2023 Premier League season, a record 12 managers have already been sacked. The "manager-sacking machine" continues, and who will be next?

Among the managers worried about relegation, the most precarious is still Nottingham Forest's Steve Cooper. After 10 consecutive draws and losses, The Reds remain deeply mired in the relegation zone. Things could get even worse as they face Liverpool, Brighton, Chelsea, and Arsenal in the near future.

Discussing the future of manager Steve Cooper, Emily Anderson, presenter of BBC East Midlands Today, said: "I support Steve Cooper because he improved the team's revenue by securing Premier League promotion. However, he shot himself in the foot by getting the team promoted too early. If Nottingham Forest had finished mid-table in the Championship last season, we would all have said: 'Wow! He's doing great. Let's push for the team to get into the Premier League next year. Then, the fans at City Ground wouldn't have to worry about the relegation battle; they would be cheering, supporting, and chanting Steve Cooper's name.'"

Football pundit Mikey Clarke is less optimistic and leans toward replacing Steve Cooper. Mikey Clarke said: "I want Nottingham Forest to change managers, but they have to make sure they find the right person. The team has only won 1 of their last 14 games, and this result is putting them at high risk of relegation. If someone is willing to lead Nottingham Forest right now and guarantee that the team will stay in the league, then I'd agree immediately." Meanwhile, BT Sport commentator Darren Fletcher is unsure whether replacing Steve Cooper will bring the desired results, similar to what Everton is experiencing since appointing Sean Dyche in early 2023.

When Nottingham Forest were promoted to the Premier League after 23 years, manager Steve Cooper was hailed as a hero. However, the Premier League is vastly different from the Championship, and the Nottingham Forest players seem to be experiencing a psychological shock. It's impossible to say Nottingham Forest haven't invested heavily, as they've spent a staggering €185 million on player transfers this season. The team also has a strong tradition, having lifted the prestigious European Cup in 1979 and 1980. The Reds' problems lie in their excessive spending, lack of a "maestro," and failure to find a suitable formula for their playing style. Along with Southampton and Everton, Nottingham Forest have the worst attack in the league, having scored only 24 goals in 31 matches.

Nottingham Forest is a ship that's lost its way. The club's management is carefully considering how to save the team. Will sacking manager Steve Cooper improve the situation? Who is capable of helping Nottingham Forest avoid relegation?... Many believe that Steve Cooper is likely to be the next name on the list of managers losing their jobs in the Premier League this season.
