According to experts and market data, Robusta coffee prices on the London floor and Arabica coffee prices on the New York floor have recently increased sharply, bringing prices to the highest level in the past 3 months. The main reason is believed to be due to the steady decrease in inventories on the exchanges, reaching a record low in many months. This happened when American roasters rushed to buy to stock up, after the US government imposed a 50% import tax on coffee from Brazil.
The International Coffee Organization (ICO) also said that coffee prices are being pushed up by many factors, including trade tensions, climate change and declining production in Brazil.
